That humanity shall outgrow war in our time, though a beautiful thought, is, I fear, a sentimental and overoptimistic idea. As imbecilic and abhorrent as war is, unopposed war is unquestionably more horrible. At the very least-and it is little-war brings hope that evil might be defeated.
