Definitely an interesting study. There are two things that I noticed in my first read of the post that I wanted to comment on though. One is that they mention breaking ribs if you push too hard. I don't know if these researchers have ever done CPR in real life (or CPR in real life on an elderly...
In regards to AEDs being a controlled act in Ontario, it depends on how you interpret the current legislation. From my interpretation, it is quite clear that when used as first aid in an emergency situation (i.e. someone who is in cardiac arrest), it is not a controlled act. The Heart and Stroke...
I can't speak in regards to the AEDs that you were taught on, but current AEDs will shock both V-fib and V-tach. A popular model for use by the public is the Zoll AED Plus (http://www.zoll.com/product.aspx?id=75). From their technical sheet on the device...
medic45 is correct on the fact that AEDs will recognize V-fib and V-tach. The use of an AED is indicated in a patient who is unconscious and not breathing "normally" when used by a lay responder now though so it's not just for pulseless anymore technically (although we sure hope that they are)...
I am currently in Toronto until I complete my BSc in December and then I will be moving... most likely to New Brunswick. (I know there is a reserve field ambulance unit in Toronto, but with the amount of time the recruiting process would take I don't see it being worth starting only to have me...
I searched on here and Google but unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything within the last two years on this. (I very well may have just missed something though and if this is the case, please just provide the link and I will go do my reading.)
As a civilian medic, would I be eligible to...
I didn't mean to make it seem as though I think I am too good to be a med tech because I have a degree, but I just want to make sure to look at all of my options.
Thanks for the link, GINge... I don't know how I missed that thread.
I pop in here from time to time with questions about joining the forces... it just seems like I can't keep it out of the back of my mind. I'm currently living in Ontario and in the fall will be entering third year of a Paramedic BSc program.
One person who I spoke with recently at a CF display...
I've still got another year left in my Paramedic diploma program and one more year after that to finish the degree, but I am still interested in the Canadian Forces. I did a quick search but did not find anything on this (maybe I missed it). Basically I'm just wondering once I have my AEMCA (for...
Thanks for the info, DF.
What if I were to join the reserves sometime during the fall or winter but before the summer when I am still in school, will they understand that I can't just drop my school work and go off and train? Does anyone know how long all the res medic training is total?
This...
So until I burn out from being a parmedic I guess I wouldn't wanna be an HCA since I'm going to school to learn to treat pts, not paper push (no offense to any HCAs).
Can someone please explain to me (or provide a link to an explanation for) the QL 3 and QL 5 stuff? (as in what it means, how...
Vigilant, thanks for the info. Can you give me any more detail on what a typical day for an HCA is like? I have read what they say on the recruiting site but sometimes what a job description is differs from what someone actually does day to day.
Why would you say it is better to join as a Med...
