Between the cartridge and weapons themselves, I am more interested in seeing how the XM 157 fire control system works out. Having a LPVO integrated with a LRF, ballistic calculator, with atmospheric sensors and multi function laser aiming device all in a shoulder fired package is an interesting...

Seems the XM7, XM250 and XM157 fielding in the 101st is going well according to official sources.
I wonder how...
Without spare parts available in the system to allow for maintenance it doesn’t matter what it’s good at or not. No matter what it is good for or not good for, if we can’t keep them serviceable with parts and tech hours it’s all kind of moot.
There is a lot an interested PM and cabinet could do to improve the CAF and DND without having to actually spend more money.
A lot of process and procedural stuff could be streamlined, restructuring, legislative changes could be implemented.
All relatively cheap but not simple.
Notice that it says accelerate development?
It does not say implement, deploy, adopt, migrate etc.
What metric can be actually applied to track accelerate development?
Why does it take 20 years to accelerate development for such a system? It’s maybe complex but it’s not bleeding edge...
SSE also discussed things. When SSE was released it planned for the FY 23/24 Budget to be 1.37% of GDP and for FY 24/25 to be 1.4% with our capital budget being 32.2%.
Last year according to NATO our budget was 1.29%. According to the GoC numbers today our budget is around 1.33%, we have not...
That adaptation though still took two-three generations though. That’s a key point in terms of time.
That first generations beliefs will still matter in the near term.
Interestingly as well though the rate at which permanent residents become citizens has plummeted in the last 20 years...
Trudeau just announced another $2.4 Billion in federal spending on AI Here.
Given the significant funding announcements by the Liberals in the last few weeks, I suspect that if anything less than a fully laid out roadmap for DND to get to 2% GDP and 20% of that going into capital projects as...
Its telling of the PMs priorities in that he himself personally announces the large dollar figure social welfare spending programs that intrude into provincial space yet delegates to his subordinate cabinet ministers the announcement on a core federal responsibility.
Likely not an indication...
Words often evolve in their meaning. “Woke” has as well to the point where yes the user should now provide a definition of what they are speaking or writing about.
Reasonable people can certainly be opposed to many of the ideas espoused by people who classify the ideas as being under the...
I would point out though that the above is justification for discrimination. The question “ That is discrimination?” does not in of itself mean that only the first of Webster’s definitions.
Discrimination can have neutral, positive and negative connotations.
In the neutral and positive...
Makes sense, we’re up to what… north of $25 Billion in new federal spending ( all in areas of provincial constitutional jurisdiction) in under 2 weeks.
Chances of the Defence Policy refresh happening or being released and any new DND funding is highly unlikely in my opinion.
Interestingly it’s likely that the 18-25 and 50-65 year olds likely have greater mobility with fewer family responsibilities on average than the 25-50 year olds.
Purely due to the lack of children and spouses in the first group and the fact that for the second, their children are grown...
I’m curious if the CAF has any data tracking those in the field forces for each service with restrictive family situations? Additionally while there may not be anything wrong with single parents, service couples with school age kids etc. they all do reduce the maximum number of deployable...
The Infantry Bns right now are authorized just short of 600 pers. The 3rd Bns are authorized slightly less than the others by around 20-30 pers.
Most all Bns for the last 5 years or so have been managing to deploy to the field with numbers in the high 300s to low 400s to include all support...
The problem with that list and the entire argument in my opinion is the belief that if each individual item on that list is good for a Canadian then the entire list in totality is good for all Canadians in aggregate.
I am not convinced of that being in anyway, shape or form true. In fact I...
I have always understood combined as meaning two or more nations but whether a combat command focused on the defence on North America with the existing NORAD as it’s inspiration is bilateral or combined is largely an academic question.
Either way it would be a unified command with both Canadian...
