In olden times wasn't it brown shoes for officers and black parade boots for NCMs? In any event, unless they're going with a black Sam Browne for officers, surely they'd be going with brown shoes.
Didn't it take a while for Italy to agree to an exemption? I seem to recall that when we were in Lahr in the early 70s there were guys who couldn't deploy with their units to Italy for that reason.

300 would seem a reasonable number given I believe it's ball park what we had in the way of Centurions back when the peacetime army was at it's post war peak with 4 brigade groups, each with a tank regiment.
Lived in Lahr during the 3 Mech Commando era and while they were clearly a mechanized infantry battalion, they did where the maroon beret and CAR cap badge. Back in Ottawa in '83 and saw the RCR parade for their centennial and pretty sure 3 Commando was on parade as part of the regiment.

Dad's first posting in '52 was to 17 Regional Ordnance Depot, then in Vancouver but in the process of relocating to Edmonton. He and my Mum lived in a one room apartment with a Murphy bed. They shared a refrigerator on the landing.
