Three Canadian soldiers were injured in Afghanistan after their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device on a dangerous stretch of road west of Kandahar, the military said Wednesday.
The soldiers' light armoured vehicle drove over the device around 10 a.m. local time Tuesday during a patrol near Sperwan Ghar, about 40 kilometres west of Kandahar city, Lt.-Cmdr. Pierre Babinsky said.
The soldiers were airlifted to hospital at Kandahar Air Field with non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition.
The narrow road is a favourite spot of the Taliban and has been nicknamed "IED alley" because of the high number of explosives found there.
Two Canadian soldiers and an Afghan interpreter were killed earlier this month in the nearby Zhari district when their vehicle was also hit by an improvised explosive device.
Seventy-three Canadian soldiers have died in the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan since 2002.
