A Deeply Fractured US

Democrats are torn between wanting revenge for 2016, and wanting to dirty him up just enough to rile his base so that he wins the primary, while being likely to lose the general election.

The grand jury has been put on hold and sent home after receiving new information, which could potentially sewer Bragg's case against Trump.

How the heck do you regularly rail on the "main stream media" and decry it's lack of factualness and objectivity, and then share an article from the NYP as somehow groundbreaking?

By the way:

Not only did the Department of Justice eventually indict Cohen for making an illegal campaign contribution and conspiracy to violate US campaign finance laws, but Cohen stated in open court, under oath, that he made the payment — which was reimbursed by Mr Trump — at Mr Trump’s direction and for his benefit.

Moreover, Cohen has made public evidence showing Mr Trump and his eponymous company reimbursed him for the payments.

The letter doesn't mean squat.

The letter is crap. This was Cohen's position back in Feb 2018 which is the same he pushed to the Times in February.

Subsequent admissions by him in the criminal proceedings against him later that year established the contrary.

Cohen himself has said that Costello in his recent appearance was mudding the waters when he brought out this old canard.

🍻

An alleged offense with the statute of limitations having run out years ago, a DA who vowed to "Get Trump" and Cohen is your star witness, what could possibly go wrong.

The statute of limitations apparently goes on pause as soon as you cease to reside in the state. You can trust that the prosecutor is already well aware of what they need to consider there. The prosecutor will also be very live to the issue of Cohen’s credibility, and what that means for what would need to be proven for any offence(s) being considered.

In terms of legal jeopardy, the New York investigation is the least serious of the three criminal investigations orbiting Trump right now. It’s simply the one that was first to potentially approach the indictment phase, and for that reason has generated more than its share of excitement from some.

They are terrified he'll get elected again. Because if he does, he'll take a wrecking ball to the system and won't be as susceptible to being undermined from the inside like last time.

Alan Dershowitz, a Constitutional lawyer and no friend of Trumps, weighs in.

Yup, Bragg will have to be careful about how he handles all this. Where a witness’ credibility in in question, it will be important to seek external corroboration- but that’s hardly a new thing for police and prosecutors to deal with; dishonest people get dragged into investigations regularly. Where Cohen is shown to be contradicting prior statements, that will need to be spoken to and accounted for. For Bragg to have come this far given everything already known, he presumably has a plan for how to handle that. We shall see.

Bingo!

He will not do the same mistakes again. That is their true fear. Full sweep first day. He has learned.

First day Joint chief fired, (I do the lot of them but you do need a few but on a short leash) and every Assistant Secretary Cabinet in the Civil Service.

His problem will be finding talent to come work for him. As much as he might not make similar mistakes, neither will anyone else with half a brain for this sort of work.

But the funny part is they will. And the talent you are thinking about is exactly the problem in the first place.

If he didn't have one Ivy League grad working for him it would be a good thing.

Anyone you can name right now? The shortlist is likely very short.
