Folks, I had an epiphany* I just had to share this morning...

Working at NDHQ is very similar to being in combat. Both are marked by long periods of inactivity, boredom and frustration, punctuated by frequent, short periods of absolute chaos and panic. The difference is, in combat, these periods are inflicted upon you by the enemy. At NDHQ, they are inflicted on you by your peers and supervisors.

Cheers!

Improving your vocabulary with the Internet:
* Metaphor: In language, a metaphor is a... direct comparison between two or more seemingly unrelated subjects.
* Epiphany: An epiphany is the shift into a state of new perception, a kind of mental rebirth; the so-called "Eureka!" or "Aha!" moment.

That is why I  refer to NDHQ as "The Puzzle Palace" .....It can drive even the most sane person off the deep end.  And I don't even work there, I only visit now and again.

In the US Army, they call it, "echelons above reality"  :warstory:

Personally, I prefer:

NDHQ is like a herd of performing elephants with diarrhea — massive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind-boggling amounts of excrement when you least expect it.

...but maybe I've just been here too long...
