Hi,

I'm new here, but have participated in Free Dominion, a Canadian Conservatives' discussion site for some years.

I've kicked off a Troop Support effort in the U.S. which I can't for the life of me figure out HOW to accomplish for Canadian Troops in Afghanistan in particular.

I call it "Cars for Kids" and essentially I'm sending out "Care Packages" to our Servicemen in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Kosovo that contain a number, usually several hundred, small diecast metal cars [matchbox & hotwheels size] , other toys, and some "teenie beanie babies" for padding and filler.  While it's in its infancy, I've come across some other efforts of a similar nature and believe it will be well-received.

I recently got a list of participants' names from an outfit known as "Beanies for Baghdad" and mailed off six packages to a wide assortment of locales over the weekend.  I have distributed well over 1500 of the cars so far and a similar number of other items as well.  I'm doing this out my own pocket, but hope to get some local and, eventually, even some potential national support.

PLEASE SEE: http://www.freedominion.com.pa/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=97912

What I CAN'T figure out is how to accomplish the same sort of thing with Canadian Troops due to a NUMBER of snags.....

Any comments, suggestions, or inquiries will be GREATLY appreciated,

People need to stop asking the CF to ship charitable items to theatre.  We've seen requests to ship shoe collections, boxes for soldiers, KD, you name it; everyone wants to help and have the best of intentions.

However, the capacity isn't there.  Every box of shoes or unaddressed mail takes up time, effort and space on aircraft that is critical to the conduct of ongoing operations.  The pipeline is too small to entertain every charitable request and good idea.

Donate cash to your favourite NGO operating in Afghanistan.  They are far better placed to do good on the ground; leave the soldiers to do soldiering.

My 2 cents.

Why so little Timmy can play convoy and VBIED?

I ain't going there to be a nice guy,not in my job description.
