I'm a bit phobic about firearms... which is not a per so problem
as I'm a civvy  ;) ... BUT I've been thinking that if I learned to
use one, that phobia ( φόβος / phóbos) would go away ...

Any suggestions about the places where I could go on Montréal Island
for that ? I don't want to buy one, just a quick course and a one time
practice, I guess, would help with it ...

Thanks in advance !

There is nothing to fear. Firearms are simple tools. They are not imbued with voodoo or evil spirits. They have far fewer parts and are much simpler and safer to operate than cars.

You should be able to do a search online for gun clubs or ranges in your area. If that doesn't work, PM me and I can ask in a couple of places.

I am not sure of the name of it as I have seen it on my friend's walls on Facebook but I think there is a shooting range in Montreal that does a women's only shoot on weekends.

Stick to .22cal firearms until you feel comfortable, stay away from anything "Magnum" "Casul"  or has the word Shotgun in it. That's not to say you can't do tose later, but learn on .22cal or even airguns if that helps.

From somebody with experience at one possible club:

"The Pointe Claire Rifle Club:

"I was a member for several years before moving too far away for it to
be practical to shoot there; it's my major regret of having moved. I
suggest Wednesday evening, it's usually less crowded. The range is
fairly small:- three pistol or four (prone) rifle positions:- it's an
ex-police range in the basement of city hall. The atmosphere is very
friendly, the official policy of the club is to discourage "ramboism",
and they are only too glad to welcome neophytes.

"There is a small charge ($5.00 in my time) for a one-time-only guest
membership, which will be credited against an eventual full membership.
The club has a number of Anschutz "sporting" (i.e. not full bondage gear
"target") rifles and eye and ear protection available; the use is
included in the guest membership. The club policy is rimfire only during
the week.

"If I can help with any more information, please feel free to give her
my e-mail address."

Thanks :) .

My mom took me hunting when I was around 12
(RCAF lady in the '60 ), can't say I appreciated
that experience... Not more that fishing ...

Veuillez noter que le tir se fait seulement avec le calibre .22LR

I guess they would help me to choose between .22 pistolet & .22 carabine ...

How do I get a permit for firearm ?
Maybe their application form is for that ...

You need to take a firearms safety course, you also need to apply for a firearms license from the government through the Canadian Firearms Program which is administered by the RCMP.  They will conduct a background check, i.e. criminal record, health history, reference checks, etc....

Thanks !

... and all that just because I want to vanquish a little phobia  :p !

To resolve a phobia, I doubt you require a FAC. Some healthy respect for firearms and access to a range for practice should help.

You should not have to go throught the time, effort, and expense of that in order to shoot under close supervision at a club on one occasion.

Non, c'est juste pour acquérir une arme.  Pour tirer, trouver une ami ou une autre personne avec une licence pour les armes et aller avec eux a une champ de tir.

Well if life brings you out to Vancouver, PM me and we will see what we can do.

THANKS !

Life might do that again for me, as I have family in Vancouver and Victoria,
but probably not for a few years...

BUT if your life bring you in Montréal,
PM me  ;D ...
