I was just watching CBC News this morning, and they ran a story on the Navy being unable to put a ship to sea for a 35-day patrol -- for a lack of fuel. Although the MND apparently solved this particular case, the Navy is still $25M short for fuel for the rest of the fleet.
Egads! Are we that bad off? They can keep my cadpat goretex jacket and fancy sunglasses, if it helps the Navy put ships to sail. It occurs to me that the sole purpose of the Navy should probably involve putting its vessels to sea every now and then, so I am shocked that we don't have the money to do this rather important sovereignty-related function at the present time.
Is this a case of some sort of mismanagement? Does anyone know more about this whole affair?
