Hey all. Had a few hospitalizations for using too much drugs with my PTSD. Ended up in a scary psych ward a few times at my absolute rock bottom. As I climb back from it (without addictions now thankfully) I'm wondering if there are any good treatment centers or programs anyone has used that was good. I've heard talk of Homewood but not much info.

Thanks in advance.

Where in the country are you? There are multiple inpatient facilities.

Homewood Health Centre in Guelph is indeed one of the big ones, and they have PTSD and PTSD +addictions programs specifically for vets and first responders. I know a number of people who have been referred to there by VAC and had their treatment covered.

I'm out east. Homewood keeps coming up so I may look towards that route. When I hit rock bottom I called VAC from the locked down psychiatric hospital, however they basically didn't help me in any way shape or form. It's great getting some direction and help here now that I'm able to fend for myself again.

Thanks

You will normally need to contact Veterans Affairs and get a referral, you could start here: 1-866-522-2122 (toll-free) Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, local time.

For immediate assistance there is - "The VAC Assistance Service"
This counselling and referral service is available 24/7. It is a free, confidential service for Veterans, their families, and all those who are concerned with their well-being.  Call toll-free 1-800-268-7708

Bellwood/Edgewood is the same type of facility and program as Homewood but in my humble opinion has a bit better reputation  - 24/7 Line: 1-800-683-0111
https://edgewoodhealthnetwork.com/lp/ptsd/

Program description: Many people suffering PTSD or Operational Stress Injuries also face the added challenge of addiction. What began as an attempt to manage the symptoms of trauma –hyperarousal, difficulties sleeping, flashbacks, hypervigilance and isolation – often becomes an additional problem in its own right. This 9-week program is designed to specifically treat PTSD/OSI and addiction at the same time and designated for military, police, firefighters, EMS, and other first responders.

These 9-week programs cost upwards of $50,000 so unless you won the lottery you will need Veterans Affairs Support.

Homewood contact info: http://www.homewoodhealth.com/corporate/contact  - 1- 877-290-3317

Another very good option for treatment through Veterans Affairs is Ste-Anne's in Montreal:  https://ciusss-ouestmtl.gouv.qc.ca/en/ste-anne-s-hospital/care-and-services/#c39546

Thank you kindly for the info. I also want to thank everyone who reached out to me via the private message route. As someone who was locked up on a mental ward here in Newfoundland; these places look like the Hilton. Frankly I need help dealing with the trauma of my experiences there now too. I contacted VAC while I was locked down at the Waterford hospital and they couldn't give me any help. It's only now a year later I'm getting on my own two feet and realizing there is actual help there. I wish VAC had helped me but it dropped the ball 100% and I fell through the cracks. However if they will pay for it....I'll use the resource. However I despise that useless department.

Thanks all.
