A specially devised online diploma is giving British soldiers the chance to gain qualifications, even while on active service
in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Newcastle Business School, part of Northumbria University, has developed a flexible management development course.

It offers soldiers a formal qualification, which recognises the skills they have gained in the Army and helps them when they
leave the forces.

The course uses CD-ROMs and the internet for teaching and assessment.

Steve Gaskell, 38 and a regimental quarter master sergeant for the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick, has recently
graduated with a diploma in management development, having first completed a Certificate in Higher Education.

He managed to complete the course despite active service in Iraq and Northern Ireland.

An RQMS with time on his hands?  who would have thought?

Good for him!
