I was wondering about how much weight (roughly) does one carry when doing the Ruck Marches in BMQ.  I am planning on putting Ruck Marching into my training schedule so that I can prepare myself for that aspect of Basic Training.  My idea is to get a good, sturdy hiking backsack and just stuff it with something relatively heavy and then head out for a long sturdy walk.  Would that be a good way to practice for the ruck march?  So what's a good weight?

Search the web for the weightload march in the canadian forces. It's got the times and weights for the Battle Fitness Test. Divide those down into smaller exponents for training until you can do exactly the BFT in the time alotted.
