Of course I will go where I am told, but what are the odds of requesting to be posted in Edmonton and getting said request granted? The recruiters were hesitant to say anything for certain. I want to go Infantry and do like the PPCLI and I live out west, so it just follows that I would prefer to stay put. Plus, I am married and my wife would never forgive me if I got us relocated to some desolate, soul-destroying part of the country. ;D

You mean like the prairies?    ;D

No-one can say what the 'odds' really are.  Historically, most infantry applicants get their choice of Regiment (normally with the employment offer these days, if I understand correctly).  I suppose if you were offered a different Regiment, you could defer saying "yes" and ask for your file to remain open until they could offer the one you want (how well this would work, I don't know, kincanucks our resident recruiter might know).  Once you have a Regiment and are in training, at the Basic Infantry Qualification, you would likely be asked what Battalion(s) you want to serve with.  You then get sent where the Army, and your Regiment, needs you.  If one of the battalions is high priority for manning at that time, then your entire platoon could be sent there, and the staff may even be told not to bother asking what everyone wants.  If this is known early enough, it could even be announced at the start of your course.  Asking for special consideration is always possible, such as asking to be posted close to a sick mother or your kids living with their mother after divorce - again, no guarantees of success, but it will be considered.

Good info, thanks! I will do some homework and take it from there! And yes, I did mean the prairies. ;D

Hey this isn't relevant to anything discused in the thread, but I was just wondering approximately what is the failure rate for applicants to the CF? I've handed in my application and I've gone to meet with the people at the recruiting office. I need to come back with reference letters and this booklet filled out. I want to get Reg Infantry and so I'm just curious as to what kind of odds I'm looking at.
