Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Gilbert, MMM, CD currently holds the appointment of Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer.

CWO Gilbert joined the Canadian Forces as an Air Traffic Controller Assistant (ATCA 162) in July 1973 in St-Georges de Beauce, Québec. After completion of language school and trades training, he was transferred to CFB Chatham, New Brunswick followed in 1976 by a transfer to Baden, West Germany.

After completion of his radar controller’s training in 1979, he returned to Baden until his transfer to CFB Bagotville in July 1981. He remained in Bagotville form July 1981 until August 1985 where, after promotion to Sergeant in 1983, he filled the positions of Radar controller, Senior Radar Controller and NCO I/C Tower. In July 1985, he was posted as an instructor at the Terminal Radar and Control Systems Support and Training Unit (TRACS STU) in Trenton, Ontario.

Following his promotion to Warrant Officer in July 1988, he was selected to attend Visual Flight Rule (VFR) controller’s training in Cornwall, Ontario. After successful completion of this training, he was posted to CFB Lahr, Germany as a tower Controller. Promoted to the rank of Master Warrant Officer in August 1991, he remained in Lahr until 1992 as the Air Traffic Control Warrant Officer. In August of that year, he was transferred to CFB St-Jean as the Commandant of the Air Force Indoctrination School Detachment (AFIS Det) St-Jean.

Promoted to his present rank in 1994, he was transferred as a Staff Officer in the Air traffic Control Services and Regulations cell of Air Command in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he fulfilled the role of Standard Officer for his occupation. In September 1995, while in Winnipeg, he was selected to be part of the Flight Plan 97 team, more precisely as a part of the group responsible for cultural changes where he participated in the development and delivery of the Air Force’s Ground School 97 program. In July 1996, CWO Gilbert was selected to fill the position of Wing Chief Warrant Officer at 3 Wing Bagotville, a position he occupied until July 2000.

On that date, he was selected to represent the Air Force on the NCM Professional Development 2020 project in Ottawa. CWO Gilbert was appointed Air Command Chief Warrant Officer on 21 September 2001 a post he held until 20 August 2004, the date of his appointment as the Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer. CWO Gilbert is married to the former Danielle Thibault of Québec City and they have two children, Mélissa and Guillaume
