History of 33 FES

From 33 FES Unofficial Website:

Both 8th Field Engineer Regiment (Edmonton) and 33 Field Engineer Squadron in Calgary trace their lineages to 9th Army Troops Company (Engineers) recruited in the Edmonton area for service during World War I. At the end of the war, the company was placed on Supplementary Order of Battle.
In 1937, 9th Army Troops Company was re-activated in Edmonton as the Engineer component of 13 Military District and was mobilized in September of 1939 and served for most of World War II as a company of 1st Battalion Army Troops (RCE) - a construction unit. In March 1944, 1st Army Troops, including 9th Army Troops Company, was assigned to 1st Canadian Army as Field Engineers and prior to war's end in May 1945 9th Army Troops Company was redesignated 33 Field Squadron (RCE). This unit was demobilized at the end of the war.
In 1948 the Engineer Militia was re-formed in Edmonton as part of the new 8th Field Regiment (RCE) (M). By 1953, the Regiment included a Headquarters and 25 Field Squadron in Edmonton, 13 Field Squadron Yellowknife. Re-organizations and cuts made their marks. Currently, 8th Field Engineer Regiment consists of a headquarters and 25 Field Squadron in Edmonton. 33rd Field Squadron now located in Calgary became an independent Squadron in 1991.
