Militia

The term "Militia" has traditionally been used to refer to the Reserve Army in Canada, and that use continues to this day.
The term has also been the historic designation for all of Canada's land forces, becoming official after Confederation. By the turn of the 20th Century, Canada's land forces were composed of the Permanent Active Militia (or Permanent Force, the counterpart to today's Regular Force), and the Non-Permanent Active Militia, or the part-time reserve.
In 1940, these titles were abandoned in favour of the title The Canadian Army.
