A Deeply Fractured US

Couldn’t have timed that reply better if I’d tried. Arizona has just laid felony charges against their 11 fake Republican electors, alleging conspiracy, fraud, and forgery offences for trying to corruptly overturn the results of the presidential election in that state. Also indicted, though redacted in the version of the indictment linked below, are Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, John Eastman, Boris Epshteyn, Jenna Ellis, Mark Roman, and Christina Bob. So a familiar cast of characters from this season of FAFO.

Let the race to cut a favourable plea deal begin!

Well obviously you doxxed yourself as Arizona AG Kris Mayes. :sneaky:

I hope that everyone here agrees that Russia hasn’t been exactly a good actor since 2016, so I’d dismiss Russia Today (state-owned and probably closest to the modern day Pravda) as a legit source for anything.
Here. Uttered during a podcast with Marc Elias.

Try a quick search before playing green-box-yellow-box-red-box.

This ain't going to be fun without the participation of this guy :devilish:
In Arizona, and the United States, the people elected Joseph Biden as
President on November 3, 2020. Unwilling to accept this fact, Defendants and
unindicted coconspirators schemed to prevent the lawful transfer of the
presidency to keep Unindicted Coconspirator 1 in office against the will of
Arizona's voters. This scheme would have deprived Arizona voters of their right to
vote and have their votes counted.

Huh. Bit of a sensational start to today’s criminal proceedings. Trump has just been dinged with nine counts of criminal contempt of court (the judge dismissed one) based on his continued social media postings about witnesses, the court’s family etc. Notably the judge said in his written decision that his ability to fine is capped at $1000 per count, which is meaningless in the context of someone with a very high net worth. The judge has explicitly reminded and cautioned that he might impose jail for further instances of contempt. He was also careful to note that if a given witness or witnesses themselves act such as to show they don’t need the protection of the order, that he could amend it.

It’ll be interesting to see if Trump’s counsel are able to get him to wind it in a bit.

The contempt proceedings all happen out of view of the jury and don’t form part of the criminal case, FWIW.

Given the lack of real impact the fine is likely to have, thoughts on why it wasn't straight to cells?

Incremental escalation of consequences; a warning shot. Not that it’ll stop him from whining that he’s hard done by of course, but it lets the court show he and his counsel have had every opportunity to understand the consequences of his choices and to curb his behaviour before he gets a couple days in jail to think about it with fewer distractions.

Will the Secret Service detail be in or out of the cell with him?
