Trump administration 2024-2028

Trump’s Tariffs causing COVID level damage to US markets.
To quote the FB memes out there, now the economists know how scientists felt during the whole "injecting disinfectants" saga :)

Winning!

Saw an interview with Lutnick on CNBC where they asked him about the UK and Australia and why they had to slap 10% tariffs on them when both of those countries have a trade deficit with the US! He was asked why they were being penalized. He basically answered something along the lines of, ‘oh I’m sure they’ve done something to their numbers to make them look good.’ WTF

They tariffed an uninhabited island of penguins. This isn’t well thought out.

Put into more context, NASDAQ dropped more today (-5.97%) than it did in 2008 (-3.6%) on the first day of the Lehman Brothers collapse. We came very close to tripping a Level 1 circuit breaker, and LULD's on several stocks.

For months now almost every single day has brought one bit of bad news after another from America…militarily, economically, politically, socially. And the sad thing is, most Americans don’t sense the breadth of it, even if the rest of the world does. The Decline and Fall of the American Empire.

Sounds like an export opportunity for Canadian businesses.

Indeed... meanwhile, the corporate cost accountants...

Mark my words, this lunatic is going to try to start a personal militia, I suspect after the coming Summer of Discontent. Once there's brownshirts, it's revolt or nothing for thr Americans.

For a bit of a lark, here's what Elon Musk's AI system Grok came up with when asked: "If a president of a superpower wanted to destroy his own country, what steps would he take?" ...
  1. Economic Sabotage: They could tank the economy by imposing reckless fiscal policies—massive, unsustainable debt through unchecked spending or tax cuts without funding, devaluing the currency by pressuring the central bank to print money excessively, or dismantling key industries through deregulation or punitive tariffs that disrupt trade. Encouraging corruption and cronyism could further drain resources.
  2. Undermining National Security: Militarily, they might weaken defenses by slashing budgets, pulling out of strategic alliances, or leaking sensitive intelligence to adversaries. Ordering troops into unwinnable, morale-crushing conflicts—or abandoning critical outposts—could erode military strength and global standing.
  3. Social Division: They could stoke internal conflict by amplifying divisive rhetoric, targeting specific groups with policies that breed resentment, or letting infrastructure and public services crumble to fuel discontent. Misinformation campaigns, either directly or through proxies, could deepen mistrust in institutions.
  4. Political Erosion: To cripple governance, they might attack the rule of law—pardoning loyalists who break it, stacking courts with unqualified ideologues, or pushing legislation that centralizes power in their hands. Undermining elections through voter suppression or outright fraud could destabilize democracy further.
  5. International Isolation: They could alienate allies by breaking treaties, insulting partners, or cozying up to hostile regimes, leaving the country diplomatically vulnerable. Withdrawing from global organizations or climate agreements might also diminish soft power and economic leverage.
  6. Neglecting Crises: In the face of natural disasters, pandemics, or cyberattacks, they could deliberately botch responses—ignoring experts, withholding aid, or spreading confusion—letting chaos compound.
... versus Chat GPT's answer to the same question:

1. Undermine Institutions

  • Erode checks and balances: Undermine the judiciary, attack the press, sideline or intimidate independent watchdogs.
  • Weaken democratic norms: Encourage political polarization, question election integrity, or refuse peaceful transfer of power.

2. Destabilize the Economy

  • Massive, unsustainable spending or cuts: Run up enormous debt or gut essential programs like infrastructure and education.
  • Alienate trade partners: Sabotage alliances and trade deals, provoke trade wars, or create economic uncertainty.

3. Sow Division

  • Exploit or inflame cultural rifts: Stoke racial, regional, religious, or class tensions to keep people distracted and fighting each other.
  • Use propaganda and misinformation: Flood the public space with lies, conspiracies, and confusion.

4. Mismanage Crises

  • Ignore or worsen disasters: Mishandle pandemics, natural disasters, or security threats.
  • Degrade public health and science: Undermine expert agencies, suppress research, defund preparedness.

5. Corrupt the Military and Intelligence Agencies

  • Politicize defense: Appoint loyalists, ignore strategic advice, or divert military focus to internal control instead of national defense.
  • Expose vulnerabilities: Leak secrets or make the country more vulnerable to foreign influence.

6. Isolate the Country Internationally

  • Withdraw from alliances: Leave international organizations and treaties.
  • Act erratically on the world stage: Alienate allies, embolden adversaries.

7. Undermine Education and Critical Thinking

  • Censor or warp curricula: Replace balanced education with ideology or propaganda.
  • Defund education: Make quality learning inaccessible to most.
