Thanks for the clarification, Nerf Herder. Some pics and videos call those tanks on exercise in Wainwright "2A6"'s, but from the armour package and gun, it's clear they are 2A4M's that were just mislabelled.

I don't think this is what's happening. The article words it badly, but they're carving out $3.5b of the capital spending which would have occurred over the next 7 years and delaying it - the budget isn't clear for how long - it could be less or more than 7 years. From the budget plan...

I like Emerson. He has a track record of competency in everything he does, and he seems like a straight-shooting kind of guy. Dare I say we need more politicians like him? Unfortunately, he will always have a black cloud hanging over him because of that whole floor-crossing thing.

I'm sure these 5 won't just have a kaffeeklatsch in a closed room and decide between them what to do. In all likelihood they will interview many experts who will inform their recommendations - kind of like a parliamentary subcommittee.

Plus, won't the arrival of the C-17s allow the retirement of at least the same # of C-130's, if not more? Thus, you would expect to reduce O&M costs for the Herc Fleet anyway.

Until recently, we had 32 Hercs and 6 Buffalos. The plan is to replace them with 17 C-130 J's, 4 C-17s and from what I've heard, at least 15 FWSAR if not more. So it's not a huge loss in the number of airframes.
