    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

CTV would have us believe the JSS project is all but cancelled. All based on their spin of a routine risk assessment. It must have been a slow news day.

    Status on Victoria-class Submarines?

Isn't that HMCS Corner Brook? According to RCN, not operational but currently docked at Victoria SY for EDWP until 2017. http://www.navy-marine.forces.gc.ca/en/news-operations/news-view.page?doc=victoria-class-submarines-reach-operational-steady-state/i6miwqrg

Leo 2A6M CAN - are they in service?

Thanks for the clarification, Nerf Herder. Some pics and videos call those tanks on exercise in Wainwright "2A6"'s, but from the armour package and gun, it's clear they are 2A4M's that were just mislabelled.

Leo 2A6M CAN - are they in service?

In Canada? I've heard quite a bit about the 2A4M CAN and, more recently, the basic 2A4. Scouring the internet I can find pics of both of these variants, but nothing of the 2A6M CAN, at least not on Canadian soil. Plenty of pics and info of the 2A6M CAN in Afghanistan and Germany, however. I...

    Budget 2012

I don't think this is what's happening. The article words it badly, but they're carving out $3.5b of the capital spending which would have occurred over the next 7 years and delaying it - the budget isn't clear for how long - it could be less or more than 7 years. From the budget plan...

CF Looking to Buy More M777s

CF recently ordered 25 more M777's through U.S. FMS program, to add to the 12 currently in service, according to this BAE press release: http://www.defense-aerospace.com/article-view/release/105619/bae-wins-%24118m-orders-for-m777-howitzer.html

"Military closes bars after arrest" - Military illiteracy strikes again

Canada May Send More Troops to Afghanistan- David Emerson 26/July/08

I like Emerson. He has a track record of competency in everything he does, and he seems like a straight-shooting kind of guy. Dare I say we need more politicians like him? Unfortunately, he will always have a black cloud hanging over him because of that whole floor-crossing thing.

    The Manley Panel on Afghanistan

I'm sure these 5 won't just have a kaffeeklatsch in a closed room and decide between them what to do. In all likelihood they will interview many experts who will inform their recommendations - kind of like a parliamentary subcommittee.

    Air Force Cuts?

Plus, won't the arrival of the C-17s allow the retirement of at least the same # of C-130's, if not more? Thus, you would expect to reduce O&M costs for the Herc Fleet anyway.

Should Canada adopt the LAV III (AKA: Stryker) as its primary armoured vehicle family?

FYI: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/08-03-2007/0004639056&EDATE= Not really new, but chassis formerly intended to be TUA. Interesting that they are putting RWS on these ones instead of a turret.

    A possible C-130H Replacement?

Until recently, we had 32 Hercs and 6 Buffalos. The plan is to replace them with 17 C-130 J's, 4 C-17s and from what I've heard, at least 15 FWSAR if not more. So it's not a huge loss in the number of airframes.

Harper announces major upgrades to navy frigates

There is plenty mentioned about the project here. This project office site has been up at least two years: http://www.forces.gc.ca/admmat/dgmepm/pmofelex/index_e.asp If you check out some of the presentations, you'll find they plan to upgrade just about everything, not just what was mentioned...

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Strikes (out) Again

Now that's an argument! Ruxted, whoever you are, it is a crying shame that your insightful analysis dwells in relative obscurity, while the drivel of Steven Staples and his ilk (which you have so handily discredited) enjoys much greater publicity. Keep up the good work! :salute:
