Interested in volunteering my time to Cadets - info?

Gday all, sir, ma'am, soldier I'm currently posted to CFB Petawawa. I recently saw an ad in the local paper about a need for CF volunteers in the cadet program. I was never in the cadets myself, and I'm interested in the program so I thought I'd post on here and ask a couple questions. 1...

Accepted to RMC but not quite what I expected

Being offered mars officer over infantry and artillery.. now there's the real mystery in this thread! Aren't we desperate for combat arms? And no matter what, I would not recommend taking one trade with a bad deal and thinking you can switch afterwards. I don't want to knock elwood's...

    Vehicle Technician ( merged )

Hello Leading Seaman - Good luck with PRETC! This is nothing more than an unsubstantiated guess, basically - but there is a QL3 course scheduled to finish this march/april. If you're lucky, it may be possible for you to get slotted on a course around that time. Welcome to the trade!

The new way of the PT test. Done at st jean/Borden town

Do it anyway ? The first pt test is a benchmark. You cannot fail, if I remember correctly. (although you can have a heart attack, which I've personally witnessed) You'll be sick through a few weeks of basic anyway. Shack hack. You'll be fine.

    Vehicle Technician ( merged )

Once a month - absolutely not. They are running one QL3 course right now, of each language. That's pretty much all they can handle - I think. There's also a QL5 and some course full of sergeants on right now, as well as our Step3/5 course. From what I've seen there's only one QL3 course at a...

    Vehicle Technician ( merged )

:salute: Hello all! I am Pte Kruger, and I'm currently posted to CFB Borden and enjoying my step 3 QL3 course at CFSEME. When I joined up, I had no idea what I was getting into. In that vein - I want to try and post a general guideline for prospective recruits. This is what a recruit can expect...

    EME Cap Badge at CFSEME

I probably met this instructor since I went through Reg Coy. CET back around august this year. He's absolutely right!! I do have a couple things to add ref:epaulets of use mostly to those of us who have entered the Vehicle Tech trade as semi-skilled. If you are semi skilled with either pte 3...

HMCS Saskatoon - drug use trials

Agreed. Nothing to hide, nothing to lose. Only problem of course is the chance of a false positive...  But then again, if you use the testing as a basis for genuine investigations then you're going somewhere.

NATO Generals Meet in Canada, and Who's Gonna Meet 'EmThere?

Yeah, about 20 seconds of digging discovers the utter lack of any such "THE International War Crimes Tribunal." Hilarious - the kinda stuff people pass out in high school because somebody said it was cool. The best part? I bet it finds media coverage!

    transition to military vehicles

currently if you're step 3 (private 3, say, apprentice or college education) when you finally get to your training, you will do CET (common eme trades) which is regimental history, some vehicle recovery type stuff, a little fieldcraft and classwork. Then you do WHMIS and safety. You skip CETT -...

    Vehicle Tech work boots

Wow. I don't know what I've done to cause such a venom-filled reply, especially since this thread is pretty old now. When I said they had a couple pair that were "Acceptable" I meant, they had two styles of boot that were black, polishable, 12" tall. The type that was wide enough was not...

    Vehicle Tech work boots

Thanks much for the replies - I am armed for boot acquisition combat now ;)

    Vehicle Tech work boots

I have a fairly common problem in that my feet are too wide for the issued work boots - I wear a 9.5F combat boot and the work boots come in E at their widest. I was authorised to get a civvy pair- only problem is that I have no idea where to go to find a great pair! I went to mark's work...

    How to Pack Sleeping Bags

If you want to pack it to use it on your training, you can attach the liner to the inside of the sleeping bags, then lay the bag out, fold it in half width-wise (so it's long and skinny) then roll it up and tuck it into your bivvy bag. stuff your ground sheet, sleeping bag headwarmer thing, and...

Historic tank comparisons, split from Re: Leopard 2's - 100 from the Dutch

Apparently that discovery channel top 10 (which I watched, and was an excellent show) had an american counterpart which was very similar... except the m1a2 came out 1st ;)
