    New Designations

Inch has it right, the air types should be abbreviating RCACS, and the army folks RCACC.  The Air or Army in Brackets is often used, but not required.  That being said, different versions of the mil writing standards will contradict this.  Seems to depend on the year or revision of the manual.

    Romeo Dallaire

For those who missed it, Shake Hand With he Devil, the documentary will be re-played Thursday night at 10 EST on CBC Newsworld.  May do the best job to answer some of the questions like why many here admire him and his efforts so much.

    Quitting the Forces

While I've never had the privledge of serving in the Regs, I did start my CF life in the PRes.  Left and went to the CIC only because at the time my employer would not have allowed for me to take the time for deployments or long extended training.  As I've worked up the corproate food chain...

Lt. General Romeo Dallaire - North Bay

Had the chance to hear him speak at the RCMI a couple of years ago, amazing speaker and has a commanding presence.  For those who can't attend his talks though, Shake Hands With the Devil is being aired on CBC Monday the 31st starting at 2000hrs EST.  Not quite the same, but still gives you a...

    PALS webbing spacing

The ideal spacing was 1 inch from all of the gear I've owned over the years, kept the tightest hold and reduced equipment movement the best.  Alot of the gear I've seen after market lately adds a couple millimeters to make the weave easier.  If you can match the pocket webbing and the pack...

    SIC Scale of Issue/Entitlements (merged)

There is (as I understand it) no current CIC specific scale of issue.  A friend in supply had inidicated that the instructions there were given is to kit CIC officers with the same basic scale as any other reservicst based on their element.  When I was kitted, I got it all.  Now trying to...

Anybody else feel we got ripped off on MHP deal?

You are probably correct on that one whiskey, but its where I was directed initially when speaking to a few folks in Ottawa.  I may have just been off base, along with my source.  Thanks for the reference though.  I have seen a number of DND/CF bid at CITT over the years but it is possible other...

Anybody else feel we got ripped off on MHP deal?

The challenge hasn't been scheduled for a hearing yet as far as I can tell.  If you want to follow it, the link below is for the board that handles these things for the GoC http://www.citt.gc.ca/index_e.asp

    MOLLES,MULES,ALICE! Oh My!

PALS - Pocket Attachment Lashing System - is the attachement system described under MOLLE.  While MOLLE is an equipment platform, PALS is what it uses to stay modular and stable.

    Bladder Bustin Fun!

For my one bladder break, it was actually a faulty seam somewhere.  The company was really good about replacing it and I use it now for my mountain biking, or any short excursions but not if I have need of anything serious (not that I have that requirement often anymore).  It took about three...

    Canadian peacekeeper gear...

I've had a fair amount of success with Wheelers over the years.  I have some field kit but also their luggage which has held up for ever in less thanideal conditions.  On the field kit side I did jump on board with the Hydration pack, but not the platypus bladder due in part to having one burst...

    WANTED TO BUY! CADPAT CAMO

There is a fair amount of the issue CADPAT clothing making its way out the door through Crown Assets in textiles lots, but as noted, they are pretty faded which is why they're being decomissioned.  Most I have seen are marked with the traditional D in permanent marker in a prominent position so...

JTF-2 Patrol / Tactical vests? any info?

Only had the TV a short time, but to get around the no but-pack issue we tool two approaches.  First, we did successfully connect out 82 pattern pack to the bottom of the center panel.  Didn't fit perfectly but did the job well enough for the couple of weekends it was required.  Also tried...

Tac Vest Issue (when is it comming to a QM near you?)

The CIC are not supposed to be issued the TV.  The only kit that we are supposed to be issued is the the filed clothing (shirt/pants) with a possible future issue of the ICE jacket for wear in inclement weather.  If a CIC officer has been issued a TV I'd be pretty surprised, so it is likely it...

how to how do i make proposals

The GoC generally does its business through a centralized service called MERX (http://www.merx.com).  There are regularly requests for proposals, information, or feasability studies and departmental research posted here with estimate dollar values for contracts etc.  Check it out and see what...

EOA - Eastern Ontario Area Good post King.  Having played in both sides (PRes and CIC) I have seen the good and the bad from both houses.  As long as everyone can remember that the role is clearly defined for each component of the Res Force, and this includes our role as mandated by the VCDS...

    Section Attacks

Perhaps I'm showing my age, but when I started in 92 everyone in LFCA was issued a book called the warrior which had excellent diagrams and guidlines for use.  I haven't seen anyone walking around with one in ages so it probably went south with the Warrior training and evaluation program (anyone...

What Army kit do we need that we don't have

Inch has touched on one piece of technology that is fairly available and quite useful for the support trades.  The Blackberry devices are available under a government wide standing offer.  Mine is strapped to my hip all of the time around the office, and usually at the squadron, and I even have...

    Go beyond your local experience...

Since my first post I've received a few e-mails directly with varying positions.  The majority of response focus on the issue of CIC officers not receiving tactical or combat arm based training. Can't argue that, its not there, but the trade does not at this time require it.  However, the other...
