    Transition to Municipal Police Force

Off the top of my head, air services, emergency response teams, underwater recovery, explosives disposal, forensic identification. All integrated (multiple cities footing the bill and available on an as needed/when available basis) and/or provincially funded where I am.

    Transition to Municipal Police Force

Scientific WAG here. They'll always be in a juicy Fed spot and can never be moved without their permission, and can never be placed on the Contract side because they'll get themselves and others hurt and/or killed? Oh, and probably preference in promotions in those places because of those...

    Transition to Municipal Police Force

Ironically, the RCMP is being mobbed by people requesting remount out of SPS. Not surprisingly, we're taking almost every one of them. I'm aware of a couple that did too good a job burning the bridge on the way out who have been refused. Very frustratingly, all of them are refusing Surrey as a...

    Transition to Municipal Police Force

This would come as a surprise to literally none of us. Its not the boredom to be worried about, its the burnout. The RCMP used to sustain and grow Surrey Detachment with 4+ recruits per Troop out of Depot, plentiful positions off of the road available with very little time spent on the road...

    Transition to Municipal Police Force

SPS members are quitting faster than they can be hired. SPS management continue to play silly games trying to assert their new Police force, making things worse for everybody on the road. RCMP members are done with it and just want to leave, but can't be replaced. Morale is at an all time low...

More Than Half (56%) of Canadians Consider Canada’s Armed Forces to be Old and Antiquated

As far as the Explorers go all I've seen is Police Interceptor models. Tahoe PPV's seem to be at a premium and so are generally going to highway patrol units in BC, and city Detachments are getting "fleet" Tahoes but not the ones with the uprated brakes etc. All have the cage in the back for...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

The only reason it "lasts forever" is because nobody wears high browns on a regular basis unless a member is killed, and nobody gives a shit if they look good or not when they do wear them to said funeral because of the amount of work required to polish them. Hence they stay "polished" forever...

More Than Half (56%) of Canadians Consider Canada’s Armed Forces to be Old and Antiquated

I'll allow our vehicle turn over is quite high. I'll also say I've mostly only seen the fleets of a couple of our larger Detachments here in the Lower Mainland. I can say with absolute certainty if you get close to them, you'll see the absolute carnage of torn up decals, minor damage too...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

I think the actual why is the contractor can't make our old ones anymore so something HAD to be done.

    New Crown

Maybe so, but the RCMP has only been to Afghanistan once so I just find it weird they felt the need to specify dates when other Canadian units didn't. Many of those units, especially in the Reserve, didn't have members deployed for the entire mission but got the dateless "Afghanistan" honour...

    New Crown

A couple observations: 1) A new Guidon was presented to the National police force and they couldn't convince the Governor General to show up? 2) Some aspects (Specifically the WW2 honour, but also the inclusion of GRC) have been changed in the name of bilingualism, others haven't. Interesting...

    Ian [Kat] Stevens

I always found his input to discussions here valuable, including when he disagreed with me and caused me to reconsider my own positions. A sad loss for our community here. RIP, Sapper.

Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

The election is over and decided before the polls in those ridings close. Ontario and Quebec dictate to Western Canada what our government will be.

    Updated Army Service Dress project

I have one of their belts, and had a run made for my Regiment. It took a significant base order in order to get the webbing made, but they came through for us and they ended up being worn by the most senior ranks of the Regiment.

More Than Half (56%) of Canadians Consider Canada’s Armed Forces to be Old and Antiquated

Given that's the best that most Reserve units can hope for, the broad scope answer is probably best summed up as "the Reg Force". Yes I completely understand they also have these vehicles to work with, but that's ALL some of us have to work with...

High Ranking Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

Everybody is getting discounts these days. I would argue for a first time offender that sentence is both standard and reasonable whether a soon to be former police officer or not.
