3 Fld Sqn (1 CER)

When I was wearing green, I was prematurally green. The flowers added a  certain something to the dreary Wainwright landscape did they not? Those multi-hued patches of bright, colourful petunias  surely must have thrilled the mind of many a plodding infanteer and gladdened the heart of many a member of the LDSH. I'm positive the giant squash did come up - after-all, is it no coincidence great armoured beasties populate the Alberta landscape today? Hmmm...  Maybe I should have planted Orcs. It would have solved the recruiting conundrum of today.

LOL ;D,
All I remember is you and I filling all those what 30 odd hole's in and you planting seed's and sticking the pakage on a stick like mum.
Ah for the old simple and uncomplicated day's eh Jack.

Jack was it you with Ryan when he ran the POL truck into the wall in the Canyon on our road move back from Wain. and he hitched a lift in the next truck and left you high and dry?

I think it was me.. but you know  the worst one was driving along and hitting a box of nails that had fallen on the road - you guessed it...8 flats. I suppose it could have been worse - i could have had been driving the duel rear wheel version. The genuine absolute worst road move was after the Calgary range clean-up - being the convoy commander (nine trucks) (as a mere corporal) and sole driver of a deuce - no mechanic backup. one credit card, with a few yahoo drivers - one of whom blew his engine. You know, after that I gave merry Hell to one officer and two senior NCO's - and was supported by the Squadron Sargeant-major. Needless to say, revenge was gained come PER time. I was right ticked off in 1981. By the way, did you know i ended up ordering all the railroad flats and arranging the rail move to Gagetown? The captain pushed it down to the Warrant who pushed it down to the Sargeant, who pushed it down to me. it only worked because someone from base transport had done this in Germany and in Shilo and because the chappie at Canadian National was kind. I also did all the resupply runs in Gagetown. Not one mention of this was on the PER - just 'dress and deportment good' - oh and 'has a tendency to assume authority and be over-responsible'.  All the higher-ups got promoted. From 1977 til 1985, I never had summer leave. By the way i am still pissed off with Cyprus too, stuck with a bunch of drunks that partied all night and slept all day - and didn't have the guts to join Sargeant  Kenny Austin and me working in the minefields. I'm glad the army changed.

If memory serves, John got out before being asked to get out... Prior to my posting to Germany in 79....

John Murry was that the French guy we called "Mumbles" your asking about???

I think "Mumbles'' was '"Snowball" DeChamplain - who was sadly killed in a diving accident in the 80's (if I got the story right) - really nice guy too... Does anyone have anymore information on him? Or Richard Collette of that time - or a Curtis Kibbins? Really good guys those  - and hard working.

Gilles aka Snowball died during his re-muster to Clearance Diver, they were using the old re-breather system which was only good to 30 ft, and he supposedly dove deeper than that. They never did recover his body....

Curtis was in Germany with the ADR troop in the 90's when I was back there with CE. Don't know what became of him after that.

Cheers

Jeff

Richie went firefighter and effectively dropped off the face of the earth. Kibbie was still around as of the mid 90's. 22 Fd IIRC. The guy I remember as being tagged with the nickname "Mumbles" was Dave Allen. Particularly after a snootful at the mess.

*best Dave Allan voice*  " Every time I break this hand it just gets stronger."

John Murry - I remember he got sent to Edmonton (Jail) on a BS sabotage charge when he came back to barracks all liquored up missed the turn into the Shacks and went into the steam house and fiddled with some valves in the late 70's early 80. Some idiot officer thought a guy so drunk he cannot find his way into Shacks but thought it would be fun to twist a few valves must have sabotage planned.

Was that not just after he had been picked up by the MP's for the fight in the mess that he wasn't involved in... When he told them he'd go quietly if they didn't cuff him??? He then proceeded to throttle the one MP then bust the link on the cuffs??? If I'm not mistaken that was the straw that broke tha camels back so to speak....

there wasn't many fights Mumbles was not involved in...................especially when he had a snoot full...........him and Hillard...........

Just read about Snowball, I was on the Combat Divers course with him and it is not hard to believe the re-breather was at fault. I remember when I was down in Coronado with the dive teams and went into the base diving museum and they showed us that thing and it was embarrassing thinking we are where still training our guys on it at FDU and everyone running around with a bottle of lime juice to neutralize the caustic and the USN had it in a goddamn museum.

Hear's a name from teh past.
Carl Sydney (sp)
What ever happened to him?

what about Gaudet, can not remember his first name but he dressed up as a woman one hallo ween dance (late 70s) and a MSE Op was buying him drinks all night and in fact was perturbed that we would not let him take Gaudet for pizza. Anyone remember Gaudet's first name?

Anyone remember that f%$@k that exploded the barracks in 1982. spr Morin!

That incident was after my time in the unit.... Though we did hear about it in Germany,,,,

It happened in the Spr, formerly known as Trumble and Marc Fortier's room in Carpiquet Barracks. I live across the hall. The only thing that saved people from injury was that it was a pay day and everyone was downtown at Earthquake Annie's getting drunk.  :salute:

Terryberry and I had to escort that little turd everywhere for a week,  talk about urge to kill.
