hi im new to this but i was wondering what basic training consists of in the physical part...i can run the 5 km and do the 20 pushups and situps but what happens when you get into basic infantry qualification?....how much further do you have to run and how many more pushups and situps do you have to do and any other advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Can't really be answered.  All depends on your course staff.  I'd say though that if you can only do 5km and 20 push ups you're going to have a hard time.

I was wondering the same thing a while back ago and was given some answers:

If I were you I would definatly try to say be able to run 10km and do 40 or so pushups, it will probably save you from being noticed in a bad way by your instructors. If you have until december you should be able to get up to this or close enough, I went from 5km to 10km in a similar time frame back in high school. Cheers!

yeah i'm wondering about the physical as well. I used to be in great shape in my last year of high school, but the last 3 years have more or less been spent drinking and smoking. I stopped smoking 2 months ago, and I feel better already!! I've always seemed to get my cardio back fairly quickly by running a few km's a few days a week. Is this enough, or should i just give'r? I guess being more prepared than i think i should be is better than being underprepared. any info would help since I have no idea what to expect at BMQ. thanks.
