I'm currently posted to CFB Gagetown, in line for the next Inf O training phases. Even in ideal conditions, assuming I pass all my courses in one go, which is far from guaranteed, I'm still going to be here for at least a year and half.

So, I was wondering whether it'd be worth it to switch my residency from Quebec to New Brunswick? As far as I know, taxes, vehicle registration, driving license fees are considerably lower here than in Quebec. On the other hand, car insurance is much higher due to lack of public auto insurance. Also, getting a motorcycle license here in NB is fairly straightforward and low-cost, whereas it's a nightmare in QC. Overall, I'd like to know if the benefits overweigh the disadvantages.

On my end, I'm single, have no dependants and listed my parents' house in Gatineau, QC as my main home residence.

I think you are the only person I have heard comment on paying less taxes here then in another province, lol

You can get your bike license here so long as you have an address to give SNB that is within NB.

If you're posted to Gtown, and single, then it should be automatic. I would agree that the vehicle registration is lower in Quebec, but certainly not taxes. Regardless, the CRA determines essentially determines residency by where you pay rent/mortgage on Dec 31. So even if you don't change anything yourself, you can still file as an NB resident at the end of the year.

ps.
You're personal taxes in NB just went up for all levels, welcome to NB!

Tax Code changes on your pay in CCPS are a function performed during your "inclearance" procedures.  So if you are "Posted" to GTown, then this should have been done at the time of your arrival.  These changes are generally NOT performed when "Attach Posted" and NEVER done for TD.

Just stop off at your orderly room and ask them.  It takes less than a minute to check and less than a minute to change it. (Update Federal Tax Details and Update Provincial Tax Details)

A quick check at this link then some maths confirmed that I'd be saving about 5k a year in taxes in NB. Never underestimate the Socialist Republic of Quebec's ability to squeeze money out of you.

Yeah thanks for the feedback, I'll head straight for the orderly room today.

You'll get a hell of a lot more for your tax dollar in Que then in NB, trust me.

NB just take your money and give it to some corporate clown that doesn't need money in the hopes of that clown creating jobs that he never will.

Ditto from me. Head to the OR and the Chief Clerk will sort you out.  As an aside,  I remember being single with a posting instruction...good times.  I used to hair as well. :(
