Hello everyone....I am going to introduce myself to you all as Nick from Corner Brook Newfoundland. I currently have my recruiting session this week on Thursday September 27, 2007, and I am very nervous about it, mostly because I would be disapointed if I end up failing my CFAT. I am applying for Armoured Soldier.

I have a question regarding the training. I have searched this forum everywhere and was unable to find the answer I needed. It is to my understanding that for driving on base or what not we are required to have the 404 completed. I do not have my current civil license. My question is; Does the Canadian Forces provide any type of training or testing to help their soldiers obtain their civil licenses? The reason I am asking is because if they can issue you a license to drive a Loepard it would make sence they could possibly be able to train you on something which would include your civil license. Yet again it is probably just a waste of their time/money.

You didn't search hard enough.

All you need to drive military vehicles is your 404, which you must have. To drive a civie vehicle on base, or anywhere you need a civie license. No. The military doesn't officially train you for your civvie license, however, much of your driver wheeled training will go a long way to help you with it. Except for some stuff like air brake, little is transferable to your civvie license, even then it's up to the provincial office.

When you search, go to the main forum index and do it. Otherwise the search engine will only look in the thread your in at the time.

I'm moving to PQ, and I'm going to be getting my probationary licence (most likely).

Will DND issue 404's (with the DDC) to those holding probationary licences?

Your 404 is a Federal DND permit, acceptable in all provinces. It shouldn't make a difference with what province your in. Your civvie license shouldn't even enter into it. Your transport section may require you to do a DIT...... but just to make sure you know the local jurisdiction rules.

To get a Québec driver's licence or to exchange a driver's licence issued outside Québec for a Québec licence, the first step is to contact the SAAQ by telephone to make an appointment.

For the most part, you should be able to get the equivalent permit in Quebec to whatever one you already have from BC.

In Quebec, the probationary licence is valid for 24 months or until age 25, whichever comes first. Like learners, probationary licence holders are subject to a ceiling of four demerit points (VS 15 for regular driver's licence), which triggers licence suspension for three months, extending the probationary period by that amount of time.
A probationary licence holder may not serve as accompanying rider to assist a learner and are subject to a zero alcohol rule.

Providing you have one. It is not a requirement for 404's. It makes things easier for Transport and the holders of the FMS password, and in many cases they'll try make you get one, but you don't need a provincial license to drive a DND vehicle.

True, you don't really need a PDL to drive CF Vehicles.... I did it that way, got my 404s, DDC & WDC - then went for my PDL.  Quebec gave me a Chauffeurs (class 3) licence for my troubles

Okay, I'm trying to get on an MLVW course...I have no other driver course, other than a DDC (with no way of proving it since they seemingly misfiled everyone's paperwork).  I have a civy license.

I've been told that its possible that I need an LSVW qualification first.  Can anyone confirm/deny this?

If you can remember the name of the instructor that did your DDC he/she should be able to verify that it was completed and possibly your card number and check on the Licensing NCO/MSE Safety. If they are switched on then they could have a copy of the nominal roll (Class A sign in Sheet). If it was misfiled then there would be others is the same boat as you are. You don't require to take a LSVW course before going on the MLVW. If you get the ML first then whebn you go on the LS or LU crses you will only require to drive 300 kms vice the 500 kms if you don't take the ML first.

Do you have any paper work from the DDC? ie Driver Information Test (DIT) or some sort of PO check test?

Heh...that's way out of my lane.

The only "paperwork" I or any of the other people on my DDC brought out of the course was an Ontario defensive driver's manual.  We had a "PO check" which, from what I remember, was basically a multiple choice Ont. DD test.

The "course WO" is from a different regt....can't remember his name.  My regt. should have a record that I was loaded, but the OPs Sgt. that loaded me and the others from my regiment has since taken a position at Brigade and the odd time I spoke to him about the matter, I was told to wait.  BOR has no clue about it...they apparently weren't even aware the course took place.  I'm not the only one in my regiment who hasn't received any sort of DDC certificate or license.  I know at least one of the people on the course is headed overseas, as such I haven't had the opportunity to ask him if he's got anything from the course.

On the other hand, I'm not entirely opposed to having to take the course again...a day of pay for a common sense course?  Why not?
