What, and ruin a perfectly good thread with the facts? Are you mad?
derekrobitaille said:Hello, I just saw this video today and was wondering if this will have any sort of effect on new people applying to the Forces. Do you think they will be taking less recruits or anything else?
If you don't know what I am talking about, here is the video:

The Canadian military says a planned visit this spring to Kandahar Airfield for families of fallen soldiers is up in the air.
A spokeswoman for Task Force Kandahar, Capt. Annie Djiotsa, says a trip this month will still happen — but it is not yet clear if there will be another trip in March.
"We can confirm that that trip is still going to happen," Djiotsa said Wednesday, referring to this month's visit.
"We do not know yet if there will be any impact on any following next-of-kin visits to Afghanistan."
The March trip is believed to be the last time the military will fly the families of fallen soldiers to Kandahar.
In recent years, the Canadian Forces has flown families of soldiers to Kandahar Airfield so they can see where their loved ones fought and lived and died.
Etched into a memorial in the base's Canadian compound are the images of the 154 soldiers, two aid workers, a journalist and a diplomat who have died as part of the Afghan mission.
Those flights were not clearly defined in spending guidelines.
But the military suspended the practice this week after the Defence Department discovered it has been paying out millions of dollars in benefits without proper authorization.

Officials at Kandahar Airfield are not aware of any Canadian soldiers serving in Afghanistan who have been affected the by spending freeze, Djiotsa said.
"We are not aware of any member being affected at this point," she said. "We await further guidance."
A spokesman for Defence Minister Peter MacKay says the department will continue transporting next of kin to repatriation ceremonies until the accounting rules are cleared up.
"Any next of kin travel or transport to repatriation ceremonies will be covered by DND during the period that the CF works this out," said Jay Paxton.

Based on that msg, is IR still an option?
THE AUTHORITY FOR IR RESTS WITH THE LOCAL BASE/WING COMMANDER AND NOT
THE CAREER MANAGERS. AS SUCH, REF A IS HEREBY RESCINDED.

Junius said:The mention to TD benefits no longer applying to people on attach posting. Does this affect reservists who were put on Class C and sent to Petawawa for 9 months for pre-training? We collected TD. Does that fall under that category? If so, what is the statute of limitations on this sort of things... am I liable to have to pay anything back if they so decide to claw money back?
The CF is not going after past payments, current payments will cease and the CF will work to get their policy in line with the folks (in my opinion) who really decide how much we are paid, Treasury Board. ;DStrike said:Oooh. I just realized, that's going to hurt a lot of people who were on Op Podium.
So, what happens if one is attach posted and housed in a hotel WITHOUT kitchen facilities?
I know, wrt a situation like Podium, everyone (or at least a great portion) was given TD rates, even though they were AT, even if they had access to mess services.
May I please just state how happy I am NOT to be a Log Officer or clerk right now.
