Hamas invaded Israel 2023

Before I burn any time, what would you consider to be acceptable sources quoting Palestinians saying they won’t leave? I know I’ve already seen it across various reputable media sources, but you tell me what your burden of proof would be to establish that a significant portion of Palestinians don’t want to leave Gaza?
First of all, they would need to know the details of the plan before taking an informed position. Since we don’t have details, we can’t know how they view it.

You should by now know to wait for details and not react grossly to any immediate msm reporting on political matters. Especially regarding Trump.

Not trusting MSM to take what more than a few folks in these parts say is the side of Hamas & Palestinians then? ;)

You’re dodging the question I asked. No, it’s not necessary for Palestinians to “know the plan” before deciding if they would or would not leave Gaza. They’re as capable of deciding right now that they will not be bought out of Gaza as I will out of Canada. You’re being disingenuous. Again I ask, what would you consider acceptable sources to establish that a significant portion of Palestinians are unwilling to leave Gaza?

I said a bunch of them “very vehemently aren’t going anywhere”. You asked me for a source, so you’re suggesting you’re open to hearing it. What type or quality of source do you demand?

Obviously many Palestinians will be unwilling to leave for purpose of Israeli or U.S. development of their homeland. This has been repeated loudly and all over the place. Equally obviously you already know this. But I’m willing to indulge you playing silly bugger on this and rise to the threshold you insist onto substantiate it. Just tell me what that threshold is; if it’s in any way reasonable it’ll be easy to meet.

I’m sure in one month when tariff threats happen again Trump will pressure us to take a bunch of them. All part of the plan.

Plenty of freepalestine supporters in the Toronto area and Montreal. They’ll feel right at home in those two cities. LPC need to refill their voting base.

Boy, this new global Manifest Destiny thing must be keeping those tiny hands going all night. Canada, Greenland, Panama, Gaza.

I must be missing something. So Trump is going to ask them nicely to leave, and they all will - no questions asked - to . . . somewhere, then Israel will just give the territory to the US (not just US developers, to - the - US) who will then just give it back? To whom? And all of the Palestinians will wander back home - no questions asked - and pick up a set of keys along the way? And the Palestinians, including Hamas, will live in peace and harmony with their neighbours because now they are a tourist trap?

Well when you put it that way it makes perfect sense.

Given the right conditions, a very large number would leave. A cash reward, promise of eventual citizenship/land ownership in the next country. I suspect quite a lot would take their families out of there in a heartbeat. Once they agreed, you would need to get them out quickly with their family, before Hamas can intimidate them. Once a the initial group get out and can report back on conditions, the floodgates would open. Even if you got half to leave, that makes housing the remaining ones easier.
Right now the majority are looking at living in a refugee camp for the next 3-4 years at least. There is no real money coming in to buy the rebuilding materials, only a portion of the buildings can be repaired and Hamas controls everything.

Which reinforces what a farce this is. No country is going to offer them that. It’s all downside.

This entire post is white noise. You want to skip all details and go straight to “no”. I advocate for details first and am open to options.

CP’s post is a more reasonable take.

So you’ve got nothing.

If you want to imagine Palestinians writ large being fine with being relocated out of Gaza for… whatever inane nonsense Trump is going on about, you go right ahead with that. It just doesn’t align with reality and many of them have already told us that.

If the Trump administration has some sort of designs for Gaza they’re going to have to figure out how to do it despite Palestinians being there and staying.

We all have nothing at this point, just an idea. You can settle down. 🤣

I’ve been settled the whole time. Don’t mistake a strong opinion with one that’s not calm and considered.

One of the problems with the new administration is that little of what they say can be taken at face value and Trump’s word is worth nothing. We’re therefore left to prognosticate based on the potential underlying interests informing what comes out of his mouth, and more importantly the influential power brokers clamouring to surround him or to work in his administration. Drilling down to what the interests are can be useful. That’s why terms like ‘rebuild’ or ‘ownership’ can be important tells.

We could offer “To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength.”
Way to jinx it, buddy ... ;)
