"Regs are better because they do it full time"

The Argylls (reserve unit) won a Bronze Medal in the International Cambrian Patrol competiton in Wales (Brecon Beacons) this year, beating the Canadian regs, American Delta Force, Green Berets, 82nd Airborne, and even Rangers.

That proves that some reserves can be better at some things!

(I was told this by a liaison to my corps, a MCpl)

Yeah that's perfectly believable. Delta Force & Rangers are elite. I mean if it was a contest for hostage extraction or something along the lines of Counter-Terrorism (or other Special Forces) oriented work, they'd most likely win. For basic soldiering, Reservists are as effective as Regs but they just work less hours.  :cdn: :salute:

6 years later !!!!

also, since our profile indicates that you are 16, i'm wondering how much military experience you can possibly have to be able to make  coments on the effectiveness of reg and res soldiers

I happened to be going threw the threads and I noticed that so I thought I'd comment. Big deal. And as far as personal experience; virtually zero. I've been shooting since I was 12 and a good chunk of my relatives have been various Special Forces. Good point either way, I didn't bother looking at the date.

I think Cdn Aviator's point was how would you know what a Regular or Reserve Force soldier is capable of.

My dad flew planes.  Doesn't make me qualified to have an opinion on flying planes....

that sort of thing...

Oh you mean basic military knowledge from Gr10 History? Sure. Every country has an Army, Navy, Air Force etc. and corresponding Reserve units for in case shit hits the fan. Reservists are meant to be as capable as active duty in the event that they're needed, but like I said, same training just less of it. Much like at a football game, the guys on the bench are always ready to go. I'm not claiming to be an expert here, but would you say Canadian Reservists are given inferior equipment & training just so Regs can have bragging rights?  ::)

You need to read more, and talk less. That is not merely a suggestion.

JohnWayne, here's a piece of friendly advice....set yourself on receive.  Stop typing.  Read more, post less.

It may be the internet, but you're coming off as an inexperienced, know it all, ignorant, arrogant punk.

And rolling your eyes at someone who's been in the CF longer then you've been alive is a quick and easy way to get shown the door.

I think that has said everything that needs to be said.
The lock is up here.
