I am doing some family research & my great grandmother's brother Frederick Taylor was in the Winnipeg Grenadier Guards. He was born in 1879 in Barnsley England, & came to Canada in 1903. After living in MB he moved to SK, where he lived in Prince Albert. He was the manager of a Royal Bank. His wife was Bernice (nee Younghusband), they had 3 children (that I am aware of): John, Everard & Barbara.
My grandfather Edward Broadhead lived with his uncle & aunt for 4 years (1910-1914). Frederick was his mother's brother.
I am looking to find info on Frederick's time in the Grenadier Guards - anyone who can direct me to some info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Laura,

Just so you do not confuse anyone, including yourself, the Winnipeg Grenadiers were not a Guards Regiment.  Their regimental name was simply The Winnipeg Grenadiers.  They did however wear a Guards pattern full dress uniform, but that was patterned on the Scots Guards, not the Grenadiers (confused yet?  ;))

During the First World War they raised the following Battalions:

11th Infantry Battalion, CEF
78th Infantry Battalion (Winnipeg Grenadiers), CEF
100th Infantry Battalion (Winnipeg Grenadiers), CEF

The Regiment was disbanded in 1965 in Winnipeg and there is no regimental museum that could help you unfortunately.

I would suggest you contact the Canadian Public Archives as that is where the records of the men who served in the "Grens" will be.

Good luck with your search.
