Ontario Majority Government 2022-2026 (?)

I don't have dog in the Ont provincial political scene anymore but Doug Ford seems to be more prime ministerial than our own prime minister right now.
All things considered, I think Ford did a good job during COVID provincially, made some positive changes on some things, and is taking this with the appropriate level of seriousness.

His hard on against bike lanes is weird, and some of the shenanigans his cabinet got up to on the GTA greenbelt rezoning was something else, but overall still better than previous ON provincial governments (Lib, NPD and ON PC). Which is crazy given how much of a literal crackhead his brother was, and that Doug is basically a low level drug dealer and schmoozer that got into politics.

Honestly would prefer him as federal CPC leader over Pollievre, who is just too punchable and smug for someone who has never had a real job.

Bang on about the overwhelming majority of traffic being at those big four spots, and for volume person trafficking, they're good for that business. That said, though, I suspect the easier spots to get through would be the hardest to monitor. For example, there likely aren't many, but I suspect OPP get an above-zero number of "hey, there's some guy in wet pants walking along Highway 61 into Thunder Bay carrying a suitcase" calls :) Other remote crossings'll be the same - slow now, but maybe not so much down the road?

Possibly, although I've never heard anyone mention it. I used to work up there but that was many moons ago when the border was officially pretty porous.

The majority of the area is extremely remote on both sides of the border. In winter the cold would get you, in the spring the water would get you from temps or flow, and in the summer the bugs would do it.

Trivia: There is only about 1km of actual land border between Ontario and the US - the 'height of land' portage between the Pigeon River watershed flowing east and the Rainy River watershed flowing west.
Low bar as that is to get over :), I think it's because Ford's been willing to course adjust as needed.
Not a huge fan but I will acknowledge that he is not afraid to pivot. Usually, it is away from something dumb he has said or done.

Plot twist: Ford runs for the federal liberal leadership…
Just heard that idea from a commentator on Canadaland over supper tonight as an out-of-left-field option that might improve the odds of Team Red winning against Team Blue nationally. I'd put that into the "pretty much impossible" pigeonhole, but it did made me giggle as a thought experiment. Given the stupidity of the last few days, I guess anything is potentially possible, but almost as odd has happened ....
