Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock‘s new documentary, "Super Size Me," details his 30-day McDonald‘s diet and subsequent health woes.

January 22, 2004 -- LAST February, Morgan Spurlock decided to become a gastronomical guinea pig.
His mission: To eat three meals a day for 30 days at McDonald‘s and document the impact on his health.

Scores of cheeseburgers, hundreds of fries and dozens of chocolate shakes later, the formerly strapping 6-foot-2 New Yorker - who started out at a healthy 185 pounds - had packed on 25 pounds.

But his supersized shape was the least of his problems.

Within a few days of beginning his drive-through diet, Spurlock, 33, was vomiting out the window of his car, and doctors who examined him were shocked at how rapidly Spurlock‘s entire body deteriorated.

"It was really crazy - my body basically fell apart over the course of 30 days," Spurlock told The Post.

His liver became toxic, his cholesterol shot up from a low 165 to 230, his libido flagged and he suffered headaches and depression.

Spurlock charted his journey from fit to flab in a tongue-in-cheek documentary, which he has taken to the Sundance Film Festival with the hopes of getting a distribution deal.

"Super Size Me" explores the obesity epidemic that plagues America today - a sort of "Bowling for Columbine" for fast food.

As well as documenting his own burger-fueled bulk-up, Spurlock travels to 20 cities across America, interviewing people on the street, health experts and a lobbyist for the fast-food industry.

Despite making dozens of phone calls, Spurlock fails to get anyone from McDonald‘s to agree to an on-camera interview.

A spokeswoman for McDonald‘s told The Post yesterday that no representatives from the corporation had seen "Super Size Me."

"Consumers can achieve balance in their daily dining decisions by choosing from our array of quality offerings and range of portion sizes to meet their taste and nutrition goals," McDonald‘s said in a statement.

Over the course of the film, Spurlock is regularly examined by a gastroenterologist, a cardiologist and SoHo-based general practitioner Dr. Daryl Isaacs.

"He was an extremely healthy person who got very sick eating this McDonald‘s diet," Dr. Isaacs told The Post.

"None of us imagined he could deteriorate this badly - he looked terrible. The liver test was the most shocking thing - it became very, very abnormal."

Spurlock has since returned to normal health. "The treatment was to just stop doing what he was doing," Dr. Isaacs says.

Spurlock, who says he ate at McDonald‘s only sporadically before his total immersion in the Mickey D‘s menu, says he even began craving fat and sugar fixes between meals.

"I got desperately ill," he says. "My face was splotchy and I had this huge gut, which I‘ve never had in my life.

"My knees started to hurt from the extra weight coming on so quickly. It was amazing - and really frightening."

Spurlock‘s girlfriend, Alex Jamieson, was horrified - she‘s a vegan chef.

"She was completely disgusted by me, not happy at all," he says. "But she realized what my goals were in trying to educate people."

Spurlock, a film producer who grew up in West Virginia and studied ballet for eight years, was spurred to make his first feature film while watching TV on Thanksgiving Day, 2002.

"I was feeling like a typical American on Thanksgiving - very bloated and happy on the couch - and at some point on the news they were talking about two women who were suing McDonald‘s.

"People from the food industry were saying, ‘You can‘t link kids being fat to our food - our food is nutritious.‘

"I said, ‘How nutritious is it really? Let‘s find out."

Not surprisingly, Spurlock has steered clear of the Golden Arches since filming wrapped.

"I have not had McDonald‘s for seven months, but yesterday, during an interview, I had a bite of a Big Mac," he says.

"I chewed it up, swallowed it and I said, ‘You know what, I‘m pretty much done after that bite.‘ "

That‘s nothing, have you seen the new Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial? Apparently eating fried chicken is healthy now..

Can‘t say that I have. It‘s hard to get any current TV in Yugo ;)

Yea, I think KFC says their fried food is healthy cause they use vegetable oil or something to fry it.

KFC‘s commercial:

some slob is sitting on a couch and his wife walks in and says "remember when we said we shoudl start eating healthy? well that starts today!" and he makes a disgusted face, but then she plops down a bucket of fried chicken in front of him and he smiles and digs in. Then theres a voice overlay saying something like "Our Fried Chicken is high in calcium! and each piece is only 3g of fat, thats less than a whopper!" And then written on the screen it suggests that you take off the skin.

ah.. so once you remove the tasty part of the chicken its all healthy....

so much blatent BS in commercials now..

"our french fries are now totally healthy!"
then in small print. it says "providing you only eat one of them and the box it came in."

I used to work as a truck unloader at wal-mart...and they had a mcdonalds about 4 minutes walk from work so the unloader crew would roll in there and order...we all had the same thing...Big Xtra with cheese...bacon...and a coke...then we‘d sit down and get vulgar to see how quick we could make the other people leave...man they would eat fast, came pretty close to getting our own special on the bord too :)
but ummm getting back to topic...yes Mcdonalds is the devil *nods*

*in addition* if you want to get even with them...just go up and start ordering...then when the person repeats the order go...no no no...i want a Big xtra with cheese and Bacon...not a big mac...then when the person repeats your order yet again...change it and ask why they aren‘t paying attention...thennnnnn when after you‘ve tormented them long enough and when they say have a nice day reply with..."what‘s the **** is THAT! supposed to mean!?!?"

Kentucky Fried Chicken was the name, home of the Colonel‘s secret recipe. Then they were sued and had to change the name to KFC. The reason? They weren‘t actually using chicken in their product. It was a genetically modified creation (with patent) that lacked the usual chicken parts, such as beaks and was a much more profitable form of critter. MMMMM.

As for McD‘s, I love the new commercials. "Our new chicken nuggets, now with REAL white meat!" What the **** was in them before??? :D

The problem is, I love burgers. A&W teen burgers or a Whopper w/ Bacon and cheese. I wish we had a Harvey‘s in town. I cried when the Cultured Cow was turned into a bloody Starbucks, god do I miss those "Super Cows." 16oz pattie on a huge whole wheat bun w/ 6 slices of thick bacon, mushrooms, alfa sprouts, lettuce, mayo, tomato, pickle, cheese and sauce w/ pan fries.

Then there was "Dirty Reeds." It‘s a little place in the Cayman Islands. Home of the "Kevorkian Burger." About the same as the Super Cow, but it had 4 different types of cheese, a pound of beef and 8 slices of bacon. Took me 45 minutes to eat the ****ed thing. Sign on the door said, "if you want a healthy meal, get the **** out."

So as much as I love to bash McD‘s (& Starbucks, Walmart, Microsoft & grannie panties) I‘d have to say I‘m a hypocrite. Jesus, I‘m hungry now. I have a 2‘fer coupon for A&W, I‘m off for some Teen Burgers, cheers...

The Dirty birds is good once in a wile, toonie tuesday are good, OOPS $2.22 Tuesdays. I like Marrys Browns better, less greasy. Better tators.

Only thing I can get at Rotten ronnies is the nuggets, and also starting to reject their shakes.

I hate the whole lot. I don‘t know why, but anything supper fatty I can‘t stomach. If I‘m going out for lunch, it‘s a salad bar. When I was little my dad used to buy me Wendy‘s and McDonalds all the time, but I ate it less and less when I realized how much weight I was packing on. The only think I get from Wendy‘s now are those little frosty thingies. And from McDonald‘s it‘s the Blizzards. But I don‘t need one right now - Hamilton has it‘s own giant blizzard outside to deal with... **** snow.. and it‘s not even a snowday....

DQ or Laura Secord are good for shakes but they cost so much more.

EAT IN MODERATION AND THINGS WILL BE O.K WHETHER ITS THE KERNELS (SALUTE) CHICKEN OR A GREASY RINK BURGER, ENJOY BUT DON‘T OVERDUE IT!

That KFC story about being genetically modified is bullshit, I wrote a paper about in for a foreign policy class about genetically modified foods

And yes I love how McDonalds is PROUDLY advertising that they JUST started using 100% white chicken meat in their nuggets. And do you guys remember some months ago when they proudly started to sell 100% beef burgers? I used to work at a fast food place and what places do to expand their meat is they put filler (Sawdust or seaweed) in it. McDonalds was 70% meat, 30% filler, up until they made the switch aorund last summer. Burger King‘s is the worst with a 60/40 ratio. Wendys has always been 100%, and Wendy‘s nuggets were always 100% UNprocessed chicken.

I‘ve always liked wendys cos you know the food there isn‘t a load of fake garbage - I‘ve also noticed McDonalds ripping wendy‘s off quite a bit. ie. "Triple Thick Milkshake" = Frosty.

I still love my Timmie‘s! And the city I live in is prime for Tim Horton‘s lovers. I counted 26 stores alone just driving around - there are SO many more that I don‘t know about. So if you love Timmie‘s, come to Hamilton.

Subway anyone? I know it‘s easy to hate "Jaret" but at least with them you don‘t have to worry about the Ratio of Meat:Sawdust in their food.

Oh you want to talk about Timmy‘s?
I would bet, that Halifax, has the highest number Tim Hortons per person capita anywhere. I Walk down one street, and see 3 Tim‘s!!
