Which I find odd as Canada Post used to handle restricted all the time. Also found it odd that my postie could deliver my gun to the door. But I had to have a short term ATT to take it 500m to my local post office. The CFO staff were almost offended when I asked to have a authorization to transport a restricted gun packaged for mail from my house to that specific post office added to my long term ATT. They've spent approx $67 million on the buy back so far and haven't collected a single firearm under the program.

I never asked for an ATT to pick up a gun at the post office. Until I get the package home and unwrapped, I have no idea what's in the box. Nor did I ever get one to take a 'package' to the post office.

The article is likely incorrectly using terms (or just as likely the ignorant government is incorrectly using terms and the media is parroting it).
Those firearms are no longer restricted they are prohibited. Canada post is unable to handle prohibited firearms currently. Therefore the legislation change would be needed to handle prohibited firearms to allow them to do it.
Still doesn’t change the fact Canada post said they wanted nothing to do with this as well so whether or not they can legally ship it doesn’t necessarily matter if they refuse as a business to ship it.

Canada Post did not require one to deliver. If you got a notice of a package to pick up and realized it was a gun (by the address), theoretically you needed a short term ATT to take it. But almost everyone took it home anyways. As long as you did not open the package on the way, I suspect you would not be charged. The laws were never meant to be logical.

You are correct. Canada Post has concerns about private citizens bringing their prohibited firearms to postal outlets never to be seen again.

True, but you can catch criminal charges for shipping illegal goods through Canada Post. Not exactly a game I would play myself.
