Hi Brihard

There's another candidate that fits the above. It's old news but some ppl here may not be aware of this.

Joe Biden’s Draft Record Looks a Lot Like Donald Trump’s. Do Democrats Care?
Posted to Politics June 09, 2019 by Michael Graham

He was 6 feet tall and had an athlete’s build. He played football in high school and was active in sports throughout college. He spent one summer as a lifeguard at a local pool.

But after he graduated college in the spring of 1968 and became eligible for the draft and —possibly — combat duty in Vietnam, he received a diagnosis that let him avoid military service.

No, not bone spurs. Asthma.

And his name was Joe Biden.

Just a few months before President Donald Trump received his now-infamous diagnosis of “bone spurs in the heels,” former high school football star Biden got the same 1-Y draft deferment for “asthma as a teenager.” It was one of five deferments Biden received (the same number as notorious GOP “draft dodger” Dick Cheney) and allowed him to avoid being drafted at the height of the war. The year 1968 was one of the bloodiest of the Vietnam conflict with 296,406 Americans drafted into military service — the second-highest during the war.

And criticism of an opponent’s military background — or lack thereof — isn’t unusual either, as the Bill Clinton and John Kerry campaigns can attest. But by highlighting Trump’s record, they’re also turning a spotlight on other candidates who were eligible for service during the Vietnam War, including Biden.

Could to know. I'm sure if Biden ends up espousing positions that this makes hypocritical, that will be pointed out.

Quite the contrary.  Biden has done things that run sort of parallel, such as advising against the Bin Laden raid.

Why has it taken so long for this to come out?
And now the onlly link I can find is the story posted above by Shawn.

Except this one from Quora that gives a slightly different version of the story.

https://www.quora.com/Did-Joe-Biden-serve-in-the-US-military

We should expect to hear more about this soon if there isn't a reason why Trump's team doesn't want to go there.

Good catch Shawn! Your story is the same one at the WP but I can't read the whole thing. It just starts with the same sentence.

My first thought also,...pretty convenient at a pretty convenient time.

The only explanation I can think of is that Trump's side won't benefit from raising the issue.

OR

Even receive negative repercussions on having the 'Bone Spurs' issue raised continuously.

Imagine how many people are going to die choking on their own bile if Trump wins the Nobel Peace Prize.  ;D

If you want to bet on that happening, according to Casino.org, "a $100 winning bet now nets $1,400."

He would become the fifth president to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The others are Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter, and Barack Obama.

September 9, 2020

Though Trump will officially be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize, UK betting shops believe the World Health Organization (WHO) remains the favorite for its role in the handling of COVID-19.

WHO is at 5/2, a $100 winning bet netting $250. Climate change teen activist Greta Thunberg is next at 3/1, New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern is at 5/1, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at 12/1.

Other betting notables include Black Lives Matter (16/1), Bill Gates (20/1), Vladimir Putin (33/1), and Kim Jong Un (60/1).

Going by the betting list it shows you how screwed up the world is, an agency that dropped the ball on Covid, a whiny kid, a power hungry authoritarian PM of inconsequential state and a Leader of an organization that enables Palestinian victimhood for generations with no solution.

Yeah I do. Because it's rather doubtful that he had bone spurs or anything else wrong with him.

I'm shocked.  :)

Hi Don

Actually the story's been there for awhile. When The Don got elected or was runnin for the prize, it came out about his bone spurs. Looking it up, I found out that president Clinton was able to defer draft becuae of college and I think, a Rhodes Scholarship. Then I noted vp Biden. Yeah, its been around yet it wasn't newsworthy (including myself) till someone mentioned bone spurs.

Really doesn't matter - mud is mud, n'est ce pas?

I'm sure anyone with family money could buy a ticket out of the draft .....

I did my CAF Recruiting medical when they still had the Draft in the U.S.

I don't know if the question was official, or just friendly conversation. I also don't know if there was a pass or fail answer.

But, during my Recruiting medical, the M.O asked me, "Do you like girls?"  :)

Considering being homosexual was reason enough to get you kicked out of the military back then, I'd say it was a pass/fail answer.

I read another question a US Army Recruiting M.O. asked a draftee during the war was, “Do you think you can kill?”

The guy replied, “I don’t know about strangers, but friends, yes.” He was rejected. :)

Yes, mud sticks to all of them, but good catch anyway for bringing the issue up. Now I have a hunch that it's not going to have any legs as a part of the debate.

I can’t think of anything that better characterizes the present situation then the Atlantic and this article.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/09/end-nobel-peace-prize/616300/

As if the Atlantic needed any more examples to illustrate their irrelevance. This stupidity probably got Trump another 100k votes.  Keep it up!

Let's be serious - the sides in the US are entrenched now.  Even if they don't say it, most of the US population has picked one or the other in their minds.

This single issue will not make a fence-sitter vote for Trump.
