I had finally collect enough references after a long time of waiting so today i went into the recruiting office to hand it in. i wanted to apply for infantry and he told me it was closed until april 11th or so i asked him if it was possible to hand in the application for them to keep on file while i wait for the trade to open and he said "no" at that point i was a bit confused but i just thanked him and left. can they really refuse an application just to keep on file?  ???

Can we 'refuse' a file ... technically no.

Should we recommend that you don't turn it in? Oh Yeah!

I have approximately 6500 files currently in some stage of the process ... are any one of the 75 people in my office going to take the time to do anything with your file when your trade is closed until at least April 2011?? Nope.

Here's EXACTLY what will happen ... noting where time/ resources are wasted and/or taken away from people that could use them

Scenario 1: We take your file and enter it into the system (waste resources...WR for short) ... we lose it in the shuffle over the course of a year (WR) and your wasted time

Scenario 2: We take your file an enter it into the system (WR) ... we sit on it for a few months, then call you to ask if you want to change trades to something that's open (WR) ... you say no, file gets closed (WR)

Scenario 3: YOU hang on to your file, you call every few months to see if the trade is opened yet (small WR) ... when it opens YOU bring in all of your paperwork, get job, serve a long and happy career.

Keep in mind, we don't WANT to lose your file, we don't WANT to refuse you a job, but WE do NOT have a vested interest in making SURE you have a job, YOU do ... so it's better for you to keep the very important paperwork that shouldn't be lost than to entrust it to us.

Further to that, if we take YOUR file, we take everyones file, then you're in line behind the 1000 other people that have files sitting open in the system ... at least THIS way, only the people that are truly serious about applying will follow up and be in line ahead of you.

I know it sounds heartless ... but do you really think IBM keeps your resume on file "in case" a job opens up?? Why should we be any different?

:D
What do you mean? I think it was a fair question. He is a recruiter that seemed to know his numbers, and I simply wanted to know if Eng O was open or closed.

His point was ... it was after midnight on Friday night ... I probably wasn't looking (I wasn't)

And no, I don't think EngO is open right now, but I'd have to check the numbers at work (where I'm not right now)

Why the f**k not ?

Dont you know there are inquisitive potential applicants out there seeking quick answers at 2am ?

You ought to be ashamed of yourself.......

:sorry:

Obviously I'M a bad recruiter ...  ;)

This is probably a little out of place, but would you happen to know if Vehicle Tech. is open? ;D :P

Actually, Veh Tech IS open right now ... but not for much longer, there aren't THAT many positions this year.
