I think the RCAF uniform could be great with two simple tweaks; adding a belt, and switching to a peaked cap instead of the wedge.

If the wedge was actually still a useful field cap, I'd be all about it. The current abomination needs to die.

It's also ugly... I hated every time I had to put that stupid hat on. I'm not kidding when I say that ball caps, and not wearing a wedge were a part of the reasons for my switch to RCN DEU.

I’m still giving 50/50 that the RCAF looks at the new (old) CA uniform and decides to do the same.

I think that when the other elements look at the new Canadian Army Service Dress they will want to modernize their uniforms. If only for the fact that the CASD will have different styles of cuts and more flexibility in sizing than the current uniforms, it is also made with more modern fabric making it more comfortable,

I'm pretty sure if there were any chance of a Canadian base being attacked, there would be no cadets on it. For example, the entire cadet program was shut down for awhile after the Ottawa shooting.

I guess that sort of thing is more of a concern. Some crazy type driving his car into CAF members, stabbing or lone shooters. I doubt they can differentiate between a CIC and Reg or PRes type

Not to take this off track again, but if we are that concerned that Cadets will be killed than shut the entire movement down. Kill it. The Cadet uniforms are very military in appearance (and even have name ARMY and NAVY in two of the cadets programs). This makes them a potential target at any time.

Then explain to how many pised off Canadians why the cadet movement gets shut down. Its an excellent and positive youth movement and as I got a reminder of the other day talking about this exact post, I know of at least 2 former troubled youths from Brampton who thanks to the army cadet movement, left street thug life and went into the CAF for very successful careers. Far better than having them rot in a jail cell or dead from OD or a gang shooting.

The Sea Cadets movement doesn't have " Navy" in its name: It is called the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Organization. The Navy League Cadets have the name Navy in it, but they are not a government run movement and are not part of the Cadet organization at all. The Navy League Cadets is for children younger than those allowed in the Sea cadets and are run entirely by the Navy league out of its own fund. Their "officers" are not part of the CIC nor of any of the CAF components. Their only association with the CAF is that they usually are co-located with Sea cadet Corps free of charge, but that is it.

I know about the Navy league cadets and not at all affiliated with the cadet movement. Now, on that topic, thanks for the correction that it is SEA cadet (for the Cadets program) and not Navy cadets, my mistake. That being said, my point still stands.

Technically the Navy League runs both the Sea and Navy League Cadets. You are right that we (NLCC) are not under the military system and thank god for that, they seemed to adopted the worst admin practices and have a utterly stupid level of risk aversion. I am issued a Warrant by the Navy League to wear my uniform.

Incorrect, Colin. The Navy League is the parent's organization that supports the sea cadet organization and provides extra funding for unsupported portions, but the CAF runs the Sea Cadet Org. There is close collaboration between the two, but the CAF is the one running the show.
