What is general duty like?

Hi, im thinking of doing GD this summer for some extra cash in the reserves. What do u do and how long is it? thanks to anyone who can help

It depends on what qualifications you have (i.e. 404's). It can be anything from being duty driver to doing a "make-work" projects like clearing the training area of garbage etc. As for length, they can last for the whole summer.

Ya, it depends. I was kitchen GD for a couple of months so I spend the whole time scrubbing pots, wiping tables, sweeping floors, peeling vegetables (onions were the worst), setting-up the dining area, etc.  It wasn't much fun but I was glad to have the work.

I had a sergeant once who was a GD in the Golan in the 70's. He referred to himself as one of 'God's Damned'...

GD is what you make of it, and it sure as hell pays better than similar, civvie-side, scut work.
