When does it start...

Hi,

I was just wondering about when your 3 year initial enlistment starts...

Does the 3 years start right when your sworn in ?
or when you graduate Basic ?
or does it start when you get to your first duty station ?

The time between the swearing-in ceremony and basic trg is spent on leave without pay. Paid service begins when basic begins. The three year period is three years of paid service. So, it starts when you start basic, and you have to add any LWOP that arises during your paid service.

Sorry. LWOP = leave without pay

There might also be the question of whether any disciplinary time is counted towards your service commitment. Best thing is to avoid time in the detention barracks so you don‘t have to find out. <img src="smile.gif" border="0" alt="" />
