Special Events in the History of The Royal Canadian Dragoons

Centennial Year - 1983

1983 was the Centennial Year in the History of The Royal Canadian Dragoons. To celebrate its' first 100 years, the Regiment partook in a very active and ambitious schedule of events. These events took place all around the world, and covered locations where The Royal Canadian Dragoons had played a significant role at some time in their history. To celebrate 100 years, the Regiment published its' Regimental History - <<DRAGOON 1883 - 1983>> by Brereton Greenhous; the presentation of a painting, commissioned by the Guild of the RCD, <<Action at Leliefontein>> by Peter Archer; the production of a Regimental Wine; the production of Centennial Sabres; and a large number of ceremonial events that covered the complete year, and covered the globe:

• 05 Apr - Escort to the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick and Guard of Honour at the Opening of the NB Legislature;
• 13 Apr - Plaque Laying at Iserlohn, Germany;
• 15 Apr - Plaque Laying at Leeuwarden, Holland;
• 17 Apr - Plaque Laying at Bergen-Hohne, Canada Gate, Germany;
• 04 Jun - Plaque Laying at Borden, Ontario;
• 05 Jun - Plaque Laying at the Citade, Quebec City;
• 05 Jun - Plaque Laying at Stanley Barracks, Toronto;
• 07 Jun - Plaque Laying at St Jean, Quebec;
• 07 Jun - Plaque Laying at Werl, Germany;
• 17 Jun - Freedom of the City of Fredericton, NB;
• 18 Jun - Gala Ball - Fredericton, NB;
