Peta, Unfortunatly there are a lot of MPs like that and it's embarrassing to the trade.  I went through training and worked with guys like that and it makes you ashamed to be an MP sometimes.  They keep pushing people through that probably shouldn't be since we are hurting for people so much. ...

If you're going thinking of joining as a reg MP eventually, then joining as a res before you finish your schooling definitely wouldn't hurt.  I was never a reservist but some of my friends have been and it's basically the field aspect of it.  It doesn't hurt to gain some experience that way...
