Allowances - Post Living Differential (PLD) [MERGED]

Hand on heart hypothetical question here:

If your current Union negotiated with the Government and this is the deal they reached, would you be happy?

If this is what my old Union came up with after close to 15 years of not having PLD revisited, I'd ask for my $175.00 a month in dues back.
Horsecock!

If any Govt employees in Ontario got the kind of raises and help with mortgage payments that I read out of this, there'd be wild celebration parties in the streets.

Hypothetical? People live this every year. SK to QC is a 5K net difference (ie: free of taxes) for 120k salary. That’s the equivalent of about $450 gross a month difference. I’d consider this significant.
Dude nobody but Majors and some specialists like pilots makes a 120k a year.... vast majority of CAF members make under $80,000.00 a year.

The middle ranks of the Navy are getting absolutely raped by this, the numbers are all there, it's a sea of red.

Of course, CMP didn't bother consulting the other L1s to weigh impacts. Sounds like they should have wargamed this more and brought in people from NOT OTTAWA to poke holes in the plan.

Another Coup de Graçe!

I wasn't saying it doesn't happen, I was simply pointing out that I had gone through a worse "lifestyle" adjustment, and I was/am making tens of thousands($40K+) less than $120K.

I don't need a lesson on why it sucks, I'm simply pointing out that the new system makes the adjustment worse for people in the middle ranks.

Thats still 40 bucks an hour......holy cow, if you want sympathy for serving members then you're doing it wrong.

Your Union would be happy losing an allowance? 🤣

Dude they should have got a raise and kept the allowance 😄. They will never get the allowance back now.

They also lost a whole bunch of personal control over the money. I don't even think you really understand how PLD actually worked or how CFHD is an inferior program in so many ways.

I must say, as a taxpayer though, I'm thrilled the Government is spending less money 🤣

Ok you folks in Petawawa...you get to keep your allowance....oh?...what's that??...

.Oh.....

If the CAF was such a great deal, we wouldn't be 10K short...

People on here like to talk about "market value" for labour, if a company was short 10K employees it would increase pay, likely significantly. The CAF just cut take-home pay for some members...

I don't want sympathy for anyone, I just want people to start thinking tactically about these things so they stop screwing each other and in turn, themselves over as well.

FYI, I think Corrections Officers deserve a lot more money as well 😉.

This is after all, the same Government that gave $billions away for people to fo nothing for months on end not even a couple of years ago.

The sums we are talking here is chump change.

$30 million.... that's a drop in the Ocean of Government Largesse.

I'd say we lost benefits the last 3 contracts....last one really hurt me, retirees now pay for health benefits, one didn't, we stopped earning severance pay in 2016, fortunately I was already at my 26 weeks.
Happens all the time...

Or like you know, pay a signing bonus.

I got paid $10k extra when I hired on with my current employer because I agreed to go to a place they were significantly short workers....

It's a drop in the bucket!

If a company was short 10k they’d move to another country to get lower paid available workers or hire migrant workers at low wages.

Depends on the Industry. You can't exactly move a trucking company can you 😉
Or, lower hiring standards.
Bingo.... this is the CAFs default. Many Industries do it as well.

It's an acceptance of risk at the end of the day.

Signing bonuses really need to be introduced at those middle rank levels.

My occupation has a signing bonus for people to come back in, if they released in the last five years, and were RQ MCpl qualified... I think one person may have taken it.

So basically attach so many caveats that it isn't actually avail to anyone.... nice!
