Living in shacks as a 30+ y/o

I realize I'm a bit late to the party, but there is a world of difference between snoring, and partying all night every day.

If the simple act of residing with someone who snores is enough to make your life a living hell, you will have a hard time in the CAF. You will encounter times in your career where you need to be able to cope with snoring, and perhaps the occasional night terror. That's a fact of life of living with other humans.

If your course/BTL staff won't keep the partying and loudness after hours in check, call the MPs.

It's not just the snoring it's a culmination of the relentless bullshit I've mentioned in my main post.

Have you checked with base accommodations to confirm quiet hours, and then called the MPs/base duty staff to come and enforce the quiet hours? A few MP reports across a few desks might stir leadership into action...

A certain thud on a QL5A Med A course had the course number of the QL5 Med A course more senior to them pissed onto their bunk one night...or so legend has it

I was of the old QL5 vintage (actually was on the initial 5's conversion perversion course - the one that had half the course charged) before they made the 3s and 5s two phase courses like the 6A. Back in those days a lot of the shenanigans was between the Med A courses and the MP courses when we shared the same barrack block.

Yeah, when I was a PAT, I started in the Meat Head shacks...new one built for CFMSS/CFDSS we broke in, quite literally when our 3's started. Used to have fun sitting on our patio watching the baby Meat Heads try arresting people...had score placards made for best and worst take downs.

No I haven't no one like a tattle-tits in my experience. Nor do I like having a target on my back.

Camp Borden.

A wretched
star wars GIF
hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious

Had course mates do all sorts of weird stuff...a pair streaked home from the Mess in Borden one night...roughly 1600m run, depending on if they were E&E'ing or not, had another get loaded and got mad when someone didn't answer their door at 0300 one morning so kicked it in or how my 5's course met our school RSM for a quarters inspection dressed only in head dress, dog tags, boots and boxer shorts for men and same for women but with isolation gowns...

Could just ask around to see if there are folks that are just mellow like you and see if y'all can shack up together...can't hurt but to ask, may prevent the untimely demise of a few people as well.

I get where you are coming from, but if it's a serious enough issue that it's causing you to seek medical intervention, or consider release/VOT, perhaps it's worth the "risk".

Rather than considering it being a "tattle-tale", consider it as offering your BTL staff the opportunity to correct the conduct deficiencies of your peers.

All sound like college-esque experiences which im far past at this point in my life to say the least and Yeah it might be worth a shot, don't get me wrong I've found many like minded older friends but our hands are tied by the system and especially the randomness of it and whom your bunking with, special requests in my experiences so far in caf are met with a swift "fuck off"

I mean I've seen some guys threaten there roommates for the same thing I mentioned above and they got charged but they got their own room 🤔
You need to be a man of action. You got a bunch of options.

1. Violence. If people are being assholes to live with then try to talk to them about it. If they fuck you off get in their face and intimidate and scare them.

2. If confronting someone head on isn't your bag then leave a note telling them to clean up their behavior. if it persists then start messing with their shit. Take their laundry out of the machines and throw it on the grass. Take the wheels off their car. Leave a toaster over box outside of their room.and rat them out to the barracks warden. Be creative.

3. Call the MPs until they get pissed off and do something. There's alot of shit in the NDA and QR&Os you can get someone on. If MPs don't take you seriously then build a file about all yhe shit they're letting happen on their watch.

Yeah good luck with the violence in today's climate of snowflakes lqbtq supporters lol

Stoopping to caveman like tactics isn't my gig maybe I expect to much of fellow members to not be such pieces of shit, I could put someone's head through a fuckin wall but where would that get me? but here I am and I digress.

And where and what would I do with such file building? And would it not create a giantic fuck off target on my back?

Being a man of action is one thing but screaming from the hilltops alone and no hears you is another.

A good night's sleep. Peace and quiet. Maybe some money missing from your wallet and a quarrels and disturbances charge on your conduct sheet. Instead of going full potato and potentially paralyzing someone you could do the intimidation/scare thing for starters.

Report them to whatever police complaints system the MPs have. It might make a target. You're also target every time you leave the base in a foreign country.

I don't know what to tell you. You're in the military. You move towards the sound of gunfire and when someone is disrespecting you you do something about it.

The other option is to just take it.

@CivJuniorProgrammer if you want to stay in this situation longer, put a VOT in. You get to restart the clock on waiting for a course, it's not a fast track. The shacks are crazy and the living accommodations are from the 1950s but you also joined a profession normally staffed by 18-25 year old likely right out of high school. It doesn't excuse their antics but you need to understand not everyone joined in their 30s after maturing in the job market for years.

I know a VOT is not a fast track, it was just point to further elaborate on my situation. Yes the shacks are shit in general, and yes 18 to 25 year Olds is the average age unfortunately. Maybe I just expected to much eh? Lol

Depending on how long your in shacks you could also look at renting a room off someone in a PMQ or off base.

I've rented rooms off base when I was on long tasking or training courses. It was a few hundred bucks a month (at the time) but the peace and quiet was priceless.

Yeah thats the plan honestly for sanity purposes lol it's tricky though because you need a month by month lease if not they won't usually approve it
