What knowledge does the former CDS have about space anyway?

Probably not much.  But he does have a lot of experience managing a multi-million dollar organization whose funding is determined by the government and, many times, affected by public opinion.

Exactly.  And perhaps having someone who wasn't brought up on CSA corporate culture isn't that bad; maybe he can give another perspective on things.

Can't be that hard:

Scene - Walt's office in St Hubert.... Feet up on desk, browsing retirement properties in Bora Bora...

Knock Knock. Scrambles to put tie on, put away travel brocures, knocks over cold cup of Horlicks. 'Ahem, Come in?'

In walks a LCol with wings, pocket protector, slide ruler tucked jauntily in pocket....

'Oh hello LCol Bloggins, thanks for coming. Good news...you're a bit of a high-flier, here's your posting to Houston, keep all receipts, no boozing, get a twitter account, and I expect a full report in 2 years.' Picks up telephone

' Hi, NASA? It's Walt from the CSA.....No, the south has not risen again, the Canadian Space Agency....Stop laughing, we do have one...Anyways Bloggins is on his way down, make sure he gets to play with Canadarm..Good PR and all that!......Oh and make sure we get him back and not a russian one. Cheers!'

Forgets where he was in the brochures, plays Candy Crush Saga instead....

Well Garneau represented the Navy, might as well have Natynczyk represent the Army!

I think he`s a great choice.  A lot of what goes on there will have some similarities to some parts of the CF he headed.

Tin foil hat time.  Any correlation between his appointment and Chris Hadfield resigning from the CSA?  I know he was rumoured to be one of the choices.

Even the Opposition parties are wishing him well; only the expected "all....military....evil" numpty is wringing his hands.  He must be a good choice.

But he isn't military anymore.  He is 'retired'.  That makes the "all...military...evil" numpty and even bigger numpty.  Perhaps he would have been happier if he had been made a Senator?  >:D
