Political impacts of Ukraine war

But he wasn't. The discussion took place in the Oval Office. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut when provoked and smile or give an accepting nod of the head if he couldn't find some diplomatic words to utter, unless he really didn't want the deal that was nearing completion.

People are trying to excuse Zelensky's blunder. They shouldn't. If Trump (or Vance, or anyone else) behaves offensively, don't return in kind, even from the floor of your own legislature, unless you don't want anything from them for the next few years.
pardon the vernacular, but your approach would have advised him to shut up and suck. The Ukraines have earned the right to stand with their heads held high. Vance had no right to attack in the manner in which he did. All that the Ukraines wanted was some assurance that someone had their back for the price that they were going to pay and he had it thrown back in his face. Trump and Vance were wrong, full stop, I guess that the EU will get to bid on those rare metals after all

i find the idea that any behaviour on the behalf of Zelensky would have made a difference unlikely. Wanting 500 billion for 20 billion in equipment. No security endeavours . Ceasefire to give Russia a breather. Territorial concessions. All that was going to change because Zelensky wore a suit?

Expanded or refreshed training establishments, too, to compliment the Nordic countries' Arctic training.

For balance, see about getting a routine Canadian serial (or individual billets) on French jungle warfare training.

Might want to check the paperwork on whether the Danes and Norwegians really relinquished their claims on Axel Heiberg Island, Grise Fjord and Gjoa Haven etc. before inviting them in with guns. I think they have more than we do.

That's a whole other issue!

I was thinking of providing additional Arctic training opportunities for non-Arctic NATO countries, in addition to whatever's currently being laid on in Scandinavia.

serious question: could Trump forbid the use of or further transfers of F16s
Not ones that have already been transferred, and he’d have a hard time with justification for stopping Non American F-16 holdings of blocks already provided.

Given that we haven't taken delivery of any F-35s yet, and in light of yesterday's outburst, has anyone given further thought to retaining the F-18s as a reserve fleet? Once they get down to the last 1000 or even 500 hours mothball them and convert them to optionally manned?

What was said before he got to the "can I ask a question" point was not so offensive that he would have had to bootlick.

Pride is a deadly sin.

So is wrath.
Yes. We saw that with the "War on Terror". That the US can f*ck up doesn't mean Zelensky can't f*ck up just because Trump is in the picture. For all the talk about people who are or appear to be defenders of Trump (which isn't really applicable except to those who defend almost everything), there are also people who seem to always reflexively take the side opposite Trump. And sometimes both sides are "wrong".

Trump and JD are expert gas lighters and at the same time such little bitches. I'd say Trump is nailing this, huge win here for the USA if Europe will start being responsible for Europe. Being pals with a dude in a turtleneck should not be high on any North American politicians priority list.

If Ukraine wants to surrender to Russia it doesnt need to go to the US to do so. The US offered nothing
The whole things a charade
I doubt there is anything to change the administrations position which is to divide the world up in spheres of influence between the US/China and Russia. The problem is that individual countries want their own agency and the world is not so easily divided. The other problem is that Russia is not a Great Power

Except Americans hate two things - Russians and Losing. Right now Trump and Vance are enabling two things we hate.

What about pals attending at the White House or at Congress in a T-Shirt reading "Tech Support"? One wears a turtle neck as a trademark for his nation being at war, the other one simply to imply he is above the government of the USA and all its elected official and for lording over them.

Stop judging books by their cover.

Yesterday was my 70th birthday. In those seven decades, the world has changed a lot (some good, some bad). Growing up (and serving) during the Cold War, it was not uncommon to refer to our side (the West) as "the Free World" and to refer to the President of the United States as "The Leader of the Free World". The quality of the holder of that office also varied during those years - again, some good, some bad. But invariably, all those previous occupants of the Oval Office reached down inside themselves and when it counted lived up to the title "Leader of the Free World". That stopped yesterday. While the USA may still be the most powerful country (economically and militarily) in the world and its President may (temporarily) claim that other sobriquet of most powerful man in the world, he and his country no longer lead the Free World.

My imagined perfect birthday present from President Zelenskyy would have been this response.

ти можеш захотіти, щоб я лизав тобі чоботи, але ти можеш поцілувати мою дупу
