Replacing the Subs

Smart move by Japan. I wonder if they decided to duck the GBA freight train and politics of Canadian defence procurement heading their way.
Also they are furiously busy building their own fleet.
GBA is just a way to ensure you considered all sailors in your design. 95th percentile male, 5th percentile female for size so equipment and spaces allow for all people to work there without standing on a stool or always hitting their heads. Heads and wash place considerations. Messing and bunking considerations. GBA in engineering and design makes ships better for the crew.

I heard the rumour mill on this as well awhile ago, I was expecting some kind of news given the RFI deadline was relatively recently but didn’t think it would be this openly addressed.

Question: when can we expect the first to be delivered once a contract is signed?

The French Barracuda class was specifically designed for mixed gender crews.

Neither France nor Japan (and certainly not Korea) make it a religion that can crater a project like Canada.

As per the RFI, the required timeline is contract awarded by 2028, delivery of first submarine by 2035 and IOC by 2037 at absolute latest.
Se we're looking at 3-4yrs from now for contract award. Say Korea delivers that's 2034. Still 10 years from now. In procurement circles this is considered "quick" even by other international standards. Geez

And more than likely within the 3-4yr timeframe a RFI will be sent out for the replacement of the Kingston's with that information coming back and another new contract proposal will be underway as well.
