RMC/ROTP 2025-2026

Thank you for the information. I am applying through ROTP as I am in my first year of university, but I might just finish my degree and apply through DEO as it seems to be more feasible.

Was this the sheet you were talking about?

If I'm not wrong, those stats are only for RMC Saint-Jean so there should be more spots for both RMC Kingston and Civ uni.

I wouldn't write off ROTP as an option if you're interested tbh.

I was told when I applied I wouldn't get in, and I got an offer ~12 months later for the trade I wanted. I also applied when I was in my first year, and got accepted for my second.

It's certainly competitive but it's worth a shot if it's what you want tbh.

I did my aircrew selection almost an entire month ago. I emailed them and they just gave me a vague message saying that I'd be contacted ASAP for the interview, but I've still received nothing about it. Should I pull up to the recruiting center or just wait for further response?

It might be worth it just to shoot them a quick call and ask about your status. You'll probably get the typical answer of "We'll email you when we're ready," though. For me, I did my MOST (naval version of aircrew selection) and they sent me the scheduling email for my interview almost exactly a month later. In your case, since the holiday break interrupted things, you could expect an email regarding your interview in the new year. Make sure you're watching your email like a hawk so you can get the time/date slot you want.

Sorry - you are correct. That is Saint Jean only. Probably a lot more slots for Kingston.

Alright thanks a lot, that's good to hear and congrats!

Would you say having already started university improved your chances for ROTP?

I know they offer very few spots for Civ-U ROTP and don't really know what to do to improve my chances other than getting good grades.

No worries, that's good news for us!

Oh that’s nice. I went for aere officer. The interview isn't too bad not going to lie, but it is fairly long and my interview person was pretty scary lol
I also applied for AERE officer. What’s your reasoning for choosing that as opposed to the other trades? It seems like it’s one of the more popular trades.

I chose AERE because I like the air force environment to the counterpart trade, REME. In the army.

That’s understandable. I’m currently studying Aerospace engineering so AERE O would be a perfect fit for me, but from what I’ve seen, the army provides you with more opportunities and I wouldn’t want to miss out on that.

Oh nice. My friends doing that at Carleton. What opportunities are better in the army? Btw are you planning on doing RMC or DEO

The army has overall almost double the active personnel of the RCAF so there’s generally more place for advancement and, if I’m not wrong, most of the high ranking officials come from the army. There’s also all the interesting courses like para training, but that’s not really related to better opportunities.

I’m actually planning on doing ROTP through a civilian university. I already started my first year and it wouldn’t make sense having to restart. What about you?

does anyone know how heavily each part of our application is viewed? as in our cfat, interview, grades? and how does this change with people that need aircrew selection?

For non aircrew trades, the CFAT used to count the most, something around 50-60% of the application, but now that they aren’t making recruits take the CFAT anymore I’m not sure if they’ll even take it into consideration.

Academic grades will probably have the biggest importance.

As for aircrew trades, the score you get during aircrew selection has always been the most important factor in getting chosen.

damn lol. i probably won't get aec then since i barely passed.
also i thought everyone applying to rmc needs to do the cfat regardless

You never know. So many people end up refusing offers or giving up on the application process midway.

If you’ve already done everything else, all you can do is wait and hope for the best. If not, try to ace your interview and show them that you’d be a perfect fit for AEC.

I’m not sure actually, I’ll have to ask my recruiter.

Hopefully they do keep the CFAT scores in mind, since not having a standardized test feels wrong when they’re supposed to rank all the recruits based on academic grades from various institutions with differing grading schemes.
