The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

The problem isn’t so much 47’s insanity, Kevin. It’s the insanity of his most fanatical voters and all those politicians like MJT, Vance, Boebert, Gates, Graham, etc. who have gladly enabled him. Even after Trump leaves office his stench will remain for years and possibly decades to come.
Eventually balance will occur - and the extremes will be eliminated or at least lessened.
In the minds of probably tens of millions of Americans, Canada is now being seen as little better than a backwater country of little relevance except for it being filled with pro-communist sympathizers. Even my distant relatives in the U.S. think that Canada is basically communist, not recognizing that we have had conservative governments off and on nationally and provincially since Confederation.
Keep in mind for a lot of things, the Democratic party here is further right than the Conservative Party is in Canada.
To many here Socialization of Medical Care and Insurance is Communism (which considering we have Civics in both Middle and High School makes one wonder about the school systems around the country).
I do agree, however, not to make decisions rashly but think that we need to dis-entangle ourselves from U.S. control as much as possible.
The US and Canada share the worlds largest land border - there is no ability to disentangle the countries.

If I was in charge in Canada, my main efforts for domestic production would be the ability to produce, launch and sustain Satellites - Communication, Navigation, and Imagery.

Kevin mentioned Israel:

This "SPECIAL EDITION" F-35 of Israel

Why is Israel's F-16I Sufa the MOST ADVANCED F-16 variant in the world?

Rumours that Portugal is cancelling their F-35 purchase. If true that might start others to reconsider as well.
We shouldn't. The US could care less about our military procurements, it's a drop in the bucket for their FMS. We'd shoot ourselves in the foot to get an inferior aircraft that we'd be stuck flying for 50 years.

I think it is a bit of a stretch to say Portugal "canceled their F-35 purchase" when they never formally ordered the F-35, nor is there even any funding provisions to purchase them over the 10 year military funding law they passed in 2023 lol. When a European country with an actual formal order pulls out or cuts it back, let me know.

I think it should be looked at.

Some folks seem to believe that all we have to do is tolerate the threats of annexation for another 46 months and then everything will be back to being ‘just fine.’

I think Canada needs to decide what place it has in the RBIO (Rules-Based International Order), and whether it does so with greater independence, or just greater tolerance for America’s economic attack.

I think the only options to be considered are Rafale or Typhoon, with follow-on consideration to GCAP or FCAS.

More on Bill Blair and the F-35.

Rafale would be the only option without American content

Thoughts on if Carney says to the Brits or the French - I want your best offer before I leave Europe on replacing our fighters. I will pick one or the other and announce when I land back in Canada.

If we think that we need to do this with the F35 are we doing this with the MQ-9B, the P-8, the River Class Aegis and weapons suite etc etc.

If we aren’t looking at all the systems then this is not an actual serious military concern but rather a political chest piece that happens to have a military nexus.

It could the case that this was just the first pillar to fall.
