There are no "first regiments" for either the PPCLI or The RCR.

There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions (as far as the regular force is concerned) in each and people are not recruited at the CFRCs for specific battalions.

Quite correct, you will be told as to which battalion you will be posted too.

We were told that there may be a change to the manning system, from what was described to us as recruiting for a number of infanteers to a regimental system where the regiments would control the intake. That could explain why he was told they were recruiting 100 guys for 1 VP, lord knows we need them.

Hey guys,
                thanks for the help. The ball has been started for me. But now I'm wondering which base is more ideal for me. Family is from NB. But I'm more wondering about the cost of living between the 3 main bases. Edmonton, Pet and Gagetown. Shilo is out of the question, well that is what 9D'er says. I know we get PLD and LOA, but what about raising a family on these bases? I was posted to Gagetown before, so I have an idea if that area. But what about taxes, employment for 9Der, fuel prices, family support.. etc.. I don't want this to turn into a "recruit" thread, but I just want my best outcome in my career and family.

I believe you ultimatly have no say in what specific Battalion your posted. So if you go with PPCLI, you could be with 1st and 3rd in Edmonton or 2nd in Shilo depending on where they need ya. You might get lucky with a request though.

This was information given to my by my recruiter during my interview.

Goodluck...also, I understand the need to get out of a custy service job.
