Trump administration 2024-2028

For sure. It's funny how the chief agitators making accusations of conspiracy have jumped in with both feet now that the roles have reversed.
Hey, I got stocks in ALCAN…

I noticed that RFK is looking to improve the national health average, by going after the food additive industry, including the corn syrup industry. I suspect he is going to bump into a powerful lobby group on that front. The US uses corn syrup a lot for their processed foods, Europe use cane sugar which has a lower glucose index.

It’s gonna be interesting watching RFK bounce between some proposals that are actually sound and rational, and abject batshittery. Aiming to reduce HFCS is a laudable goal in and of itself.

Apparently corn syrup is a major contributor to obesity and diabetes.

Crush and pulverized then liquified Dolphin guts and oil extracted from beached whales …

Even more subtly, it'll be an interesting balancing act between the de-regulative "we're here to get big government outta your way" impulses and the regulative "you're now gonna have to do this, this and this" impulses. And this could be one area out of many government'll be dealing with where that tug of war plays out.
corn vs sugar cane which has the bigger political apparatus? My bet is on Big Corn
Given it looks like a close-to 50-50 split (45% cane, 55% beets) between U.S. sugar being produced from beets and sugar cane, I'd bet on Big Corn over Big Beet/Cane as well. Further complicating the picture: almost 1/3 of the sugar the U.S. uses is imported, so who knows what the across-the-board tariffs being bandied about will mean on that front as well.

And that's just sugar ...

Sugar into the US is subject to tariff, unless it's small amounts of speciality sugars. Basically anything threatening the monopoly gets beat on.

IMO there needs to be a massive campaign that weans us and the yanks off sugar. Period.
Winnipeg is the Slurpee capital of the world and has a high incidence of diabetes. But Slurpees....I refuse to buy them for my two grandkids.
